Shipping Costs

I need to get new tyres for my e46, and thus looking at getting them from the US. Clearly the tyres are MUCH cheaper, but I'm having trouble getting a reliable shipping quote.

I've seen folks getting charged low hunderds for shipping 4 tyres - but, using UPS's quoting tool, I get $us1200+. That would more than negate any saving.

Anyone have any recent experience with this? If so, with which shipping company (FedEX, UPS, etc). And how did you get a quote before you committed.

TIA
