Anyone using the M3 convertible sway bars as an upgrade who would like to share impressions?

Yes, I'm running the E93 front sway for 2+ years and feel it gives me a bit more grip in back.

Is the suggestion just for the fronts or all around?

Fronts only. Gives a bit more grip in back.

On an otherwise stock car, isn't that going to worsen the balance of the car? I haven't decided whether to do camber plates yet, so understeer is still an issue.

Tune the chassis with other means and leave the sway bar last.

I've got a vert bar that I installed in early 2012. Still there.

Bumping this thread to solicit a little more in the way of opinions on this.

I've read all the threads I can find and I have to admit that I'm a little confused about why a thicker bar up front improves rear grip.

Also seek clarification on the effect of a thicker front bar on understeer.

Well, now you are asking about suspension tuning 101 . . .

It has to do with GRIP EFFICIENCY. Increasing the load on a tire will increase its grip, but not in a linear way. Increasing the load on the tire by 50% may only increase its grip by 30%.

As an example, suppose you have ONLY a front sway bar. In a hard right hand turn, a stiffer front sway bar will add load to the left front tire while removing load from the right front tire. A very stiff bar, as the most extreme example, would lift the right tire off the road, which would obviously reduce its grip to zero. Despite its increased load, the left front tire would not replace all of the grip taken from the right front tire. At the same time, the rear tires are benefiting from the reduced body roll, maintaining more optimal angles to the road surface, while being able to maintain a more balanced share of the load.
