Just hit 86K miles (2011), did a preventative water pump & thermostat replacement. My CPO warranty just expired, so any failure would now be on me. My nephew is a mechanic, he did it for $550 P+L.

I refuse to vote on this poll, because the minute I do, I'll be limping home! Planning on doing it as PM at 75K if I don't need it sooner.

2012 135, around 35k miles, a month ago...
was expensive, repair shop (not the dealership) did it for around 900- 1000 or so if I remember correctly, with BMW parts. Car is CPO but I did not even try to go to BMW on this one. |

The parts alone are $450+ and it's a 3 hours+ job for most mechanic.

Make it 5 for the 2013 135i, N55. Pump died on me at just under 31k miles. Warranty expired in March. No help from the dealer since I'm not the original owner and I didn't buy it used at a BMW dealership. $1,600 for new pump and T-stat from them. Luckily I purchased an extended warranty when I bought the car 5k miles ago!

The 128i's seem to be lasting a LONG time(100K miles). Many guys are on their original water pump. Most of the 135i guys seen failures before 65K.
But personally... IF I had a 128i, I would seriously consider changing the pump(and t-stat) as preventive maintenance - say by 80K or 85K miles. Also... your old coolant(plus five years old) isn't doing your cooling system any favors as it gets more acidic and corodes your system(radiator/hoses/t-stat/pump/engine block). Dackel

Yes I am! My extended warranty covered everything but the T-stat. The service writer got that cost down to $98 out the door. National Warranty Corp. according to him has always been the best warranty company to work with. It's paid for nearly half of the warranty cost now and I'm sure as soon as the DCT or OFHG start leaking it will pay for itself in full.
