Judging from the pictures, the guys at Impact Engineering are doing a great job of preventing any damage to the interior while undertaking the tough task of putting in a tight and safe cage.
More pics of the guys at work

UPDATE: Yesterday afternoon, I got word from Impact Engineering that the car was on it's way to do some testing at Buttonwillow on Friday (May 30th) and should be at the track ready for it's debut race event this weekend at Willow Springs. I'll try to post the latest cage pics.

Correct. We thought about converting it to hardtop, but could not get the blessing from the head stewart at BMW Club Racing (I had even already bought the headliner). You only need 3 parts (hardtop skin, roof bow and headliner) to pull it off.
More on the build

The car as it was ready to leave for the shakedown at Willow Springs on Friday, May 30th (remember, this car was a stock car at Bimmerfest on Sat. May 3rd!)

Thanks Guys!
Well, the car made it out to Willow Springs on Friday and Turner Motorsports driver VJ Mirzhayan gave it a shake down run. Apparently, when he got out of the car, he had a huge smile on his face :w00t: Early indications are the car has a bunch of understeer (until we do something about it  ), but that the car is a blast to drive and should be pretty quick. But the car didn't go into limp home mode at the drop of a hat and nothing on the car presented a problem (no leaking fluids, etc.).

Did you guys do the build on the former set of "Let's Make A Deal"?? If not, Monty Hall wants his doors back.
Car's looking great, and very decent work on the armrest and cage intersecting the dash! Can't wait to hear some impressions of how Willow Springs went. |

For a very first time out with no performance modifications except a KW street kit and R compound tires, the car showed a lot of promise. We were 3 seconds off the track record for that track, but we're sure when built to the full extent of the rules, has more than that left in it. The amazing thing - the car ran two 45 minute races without going into 'limp home' mode!!! So all in all a good weekend - the car is wicked fast on the straights (and will be even faster with Dinan software) and when we get more Nitto rubber up front and some camber, it will be a lot quicker. But the car did not show any signs of complaining about being a race car. Some team pics in my 135 track gallery: http://www.bimmerfest.com/photos/sho...y.php/cat/3143

Alright - now for what you guys really want to see. Here's a first teaser shot - I'll be posting more pics in the coming weeks
Here's what it looked like at the end of its debut weekend at Willow Springs - we believe this is the first 135i to be raced in a sanctioned racing body hi res: http://www.bimmerfest.com/photos/dat...8_135_race.jpg Attachment 7956
