The slam-into-park-when-the-door-opens thing has been in other BMW models since they went to electronic shifters (2008?) and is a function of those shifters. It is a horrible feature for those of us who open our door to check parking, but it is designed to prevent people from running over themselves since the shifter does not physically move and people have been killed by digital shifters in other cars (Chrysler/Jeeps) when their car backed over them. I agree that there should be a way to override it but have gotten used to putting it back in reverse after opening the door.

On Hondas/Acuras with the electronic shifter, if the driver's seat belt is done up, it will let you drive with the door open.

I've had my 2012 for 3 years now and I just had to replace the HPFP, rail and sensors. Other than this turn of events, it's just been oil and mods.

76000km water pump and power steering pump.
2012 135i DCT
80000km plugs
85000km oil filter housing gasket and belt due to oil damage.
104000km tensioner
I’ve owned this car from 40k-104k km. It’s a pretty low maintenance car but I’m selling it because the battery is soon due and there are few things to consider doing as maintenance after 60k miles.

You are selling it because maintenance is due?

Reminds me of customers that trade their car in when it needs new tires.

And of course they overlook the fact that the trade in value goes down by the value of replacement tires. No free lunch.

If you really must open the door to reverse, roll the lock over into the locked position using a pen or key blade. That will simulate a shut door. Just be careful with the wide 1er doors - watch out for shelves etc.

Otherwise just prop yourself up against the backrest with your elbow and lean out the window.

Seriously....

I just paid a $1500 routine maintenance bill on my Ducati 848 and that's with a $250 discount.
