How to jack car up on stands?!

Ok, so I'm looking for a simple answer to this likely simple question:

I need to jack up both front sides of my 135i, I know the jack pads are a specific inner size, etc. as I just replaced 2 of them. My question is how the hell do you jack your car up with a rectangular adapter like I already have, and then get jack stands underneath, when my reg jack is already in the oe jack pad spot?

If that was hard to understand how's this, I've got one floor jack, and two jack stands. I've not even been able to find anyway to get an adapter to fit the jack stands (they're the kind with the upwards Y top). But again, even if I did have a way, if the one side is already up with the floor jack in the oe jack pad, how or where else do i place the jack stand, I don't see any other jack point, or at least I don't know of any others on this car

Use your center jacking point. Front is near the oil drain plug and rear is your diff. Roll up on 2x4s if you're too low.

You need special adapters for your jack stands to fit properly. Amazon sells them.

Look into the ESCO flat top jack stands. They are pricey, but, safe and sturdy.

Found a ProLift 2 ton floor jack for $52 on amazon, figure most stands are that and more, I'll just get a second floor jack, less headaches anyways.

The issue is not getting up in the air, it is staying there. Jacks pose the risk of coming down, with the risk generally going up as they age, but even when new, if it goes down, the outcomes can be horrendous if you are under at the time.
Question is simply how much you are willing to pay to protect yourself and your life style.

No. The actual issue is WHICH jack points OTHER THAN the 4 stock ones do I have to use if trying to switch from floor jack to jack stands. As I stated just earlier though, I plan on just buying a second floor jack. A 2 ton floor jack with the adapter will hold the car, I am not really worried about dying from this

All you need to do to jack up the front at the same time is use the jack pad located on the subframe, its pretty hard to miss.

In the rear just use the diff.

For the love of god dont use 2 jacks instead of stands.

https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=613070 photo reference

And you can make do with most jack stands , most stands have like a rectangular cutout in the center just line that up with the jack pad or as close to that as you can and you will be fine, or buy the really expensive ones.

Also the idea would be to have a stand with a circular top which I've also found, reason being that it needs to rest the circular adapter which houses the rectangular jack adapter.

There's no way in hell I'd be stupid enough to rest the car's weight on a Y-jack stand just "cradling" the outside of the plastic oe pads. Though funny as that is, that's why I had to replace one as it was beat to hell, likely the previous person had you're same train of thought.

I have since found these, kinda weird that these are really the only flat topped ones though..I wish I'd gotten these though back when I'd purchased the pinch weld stands before

It's been mentioned many times before but not again in this thread surprisingly.
If you need to put the front on stands you can jack up the rear from the side points and lift it high enough to put the stands at the front. Repeat for the other side.
Vice versa for lifting the rear, jack front, insert stands.

E82 have fins on the diff... Don't put the jack pad on the fins.
E88 don't have this but have a point just behind the diff where the support braces meet in a V shape. You can jack here.

I don't honestly think my floor jack with lift the rear up high nuff to get these stands in the front. My current floor jack only raises about 15" high. I think if I need to i'll try lifting from the center of the front subframe, but do I go in from the side or the front, I guess whichever is shorter distance?

Front. You might first have to get car off the ground about 2" to reach that subframe lifting point. For that I use a piece of 2"x 6" and one of the side jack pads. Doing this on only 1 side will get my car up enough to reach the center point.

Thumbs up

I got a low profile floor jack from Costco that fits perfectly under my 1 series and I can even get it under my girls Lexus F sport. I use the small ESCO Flat Top Jack Stands and puck pads I got off Ebay.

I jack the car up with the jack pads and put the stands on the frame of the car.

I struggled to get by without the aluminum inserts for the jacking points for several years and then just broke down and bought 4. With aluminum inserts in the jacking pads there is no issue with "normal" jack stands. I just let the car down on them. You have to be a little careful that they stay in the plastic jacking pads but it isn't very hard.

Jacking the back to set stands on the front works, I've done it. Jacking the back or one side of the front to get a second jack under the jacking point in the middle in the front also works well. I prefer to use the center front jacking point to the differential. It's easy to see where the center front jacking point is, it is a little harder to determine exactly where is safe versus not safe on the differential. But if you really need to be on 4 stands, I would do it.

It is not just a potential catastrophic failure of the jack you have to worry about. It is also a slow leak. My older jack does this. I don't know if my newer, lower, jack does. If you are under the car and it lowers enough, it can be difficult to get out. And it will keep coming down. I like having two jacks but I don't depend on them if I go under the car. I use stands. Even if I can't easily get them on a jacking point, I like having them under the car if I am going under it. There are points on the suspension that are sturdy enough to hold the car, for instance. If the jack fails, the worst you are looking at is damage to your car if you don't select the right spot. Cars are easier to fix than our bodies.

Get some esco stands. I got them on sale awhile back and they are the best I've ever had. I own like at least a dozen other stands. My "low profile" jack doesn't fit under the front of my car so I use a cheap Walmart jack on the side to get it high enough to get my jack under the front and always use the front point on subframe and use the bolt area for vbraces in the back to jack that. I've seen people dent the diff cover trying to jack it there. With escos on the front and 6 ton on the back I can get this car like 30" off he ground, so my fat ass and a creeper can get under with no issues. And recently was high enough to roll my trans on a trans jack out of the side.

I also had same issues. I made 4 jack pads out of hockey pucks that slip right into the frame jack points. But my frame stands were flat not Y type you mentioned. Eventually I purchased these and love them. The ramp itself slides away after your up in the wheel chock.
