high mileage 1M
190,000 miles. What does the collective group think the 1M N54 engine can achieve in total miles?

Really depends on the care it received. Oil changes etc. The engine can probably go a little more but stuff around it breaks. Turbo lines leaks, vanos will need rebuilding, vacuum leaks etc. The amazing thing about the 1M is that the stuff is not exotic though as far as the engine goes. If you don't drive it a lot, it will be better but I wouldn't get it as a daily at that mileage. Just too much plastic stuff that will start to fail.

No oil consumption. Oil changed with Liqimoly every 5000. Vanos errors appearing.

If it were my 1M and I was getting vanos errors at 190k after replacing the solenoids, I would probably consider replacing the whole timing setup... and maybe cams/springs/guides while I'm in there.

Agree. Or replace the entire engine.

Yeah, a full rebuild would probably be in order, as long as the cylinders and crank are still in good shape (should be with no oil consumption). Fresh rods and a set of mahle's forged pistons would be nice.
I'm only at 60k on mine, but have RB ones, akra down and mid pipes, uprated low pressure fuel pump, dual oil coolers, CSF radiator, and a fresh water pump to put in over the winter. Shifting at 7k in the spring |

Compression test completed all cylinders at 191 psi. Cam cradles in excellent condition. New vanos actuators and chain and seals going on. Let's go another 100,000 miles!

That's cool to see. I have 140k miles on my full modded 135, I'm surprised to see a 190k mile driven 1M. My car has 400whp and I bet I averaged oil changes around every 10k miles and I have no oil consumption. I'd guess my car goes into limp mode about twice as often as it did when lower miles (almost always I just turn it off and it's fine when restarted).
