Tips on cleaning black chrome tail pipes?

I have a 135i with the black tail pipes. They're kind of corroded looking, or a little gunky. Any tips on how to clean them and make 'em all shiny again?

Try Meguiars's Ultimate compound followed by Ultimate past wax.

I, seriously, just use some Eagle One wadding polish that I've had around for probably 5 yrs. now. You need so little of it to do so much, that I still have 3/4 of it left. I've used it on the wheels and exhaust (including my 135i with black tips I just bought a month and a half ago) of 3 cars. Stuff works great and I love the fact that I throw the wad in the trash when I am done. No towels to wash or waste throwing away when I am done. Then again, nothing I've owned was "corroded" when I started. You may need stronger, better stuff. I will say mine looked a bit worse for wear when I bought the car due to build up, but the Eagle One and some elbow grease got them shiny again.

Slide em off and toss them in the dishwasher? Kinda half kidding. It might actually work. Have never tried it though.

I'd personally use blue magic polish but there are plenty of valid ways to get grime off of finished metals.

Menzerna Polishing Cream and some microfibre towels. It works immensely good and actually the tips will go from black to slightly dark chrome.

I use my alloy wheel cleaner (P21S gel) on my exhaust tips. I let it change color and then I use a high pressure wand to blow off the gunk.

I've been told the black tips on the 135i I have will be damaged by using a metal polish. I've been told to only use soap and water with a cloth. Can you tell me what they're actually made of so I don't damage them. I live in the US so I'm not sure same products are available here. I just don't want to ruin the service but shine them up.

Perhaps Phil from DetailersDomain can chime in.

Like I said I use P21S wheel cleaner on my exhaust tips and then after I rinse the gel off, I use a sponge and some soapy water.

My wheel cleaner looks almost like the one in the link above... but my wheel cleaner is a reddish color and smells like cherries. Not sure IF its the same product or not.

THIS is what I use...

P21S Felgen-Reiniger POWER GEL

I have also heard people used some stainless steel wool (#000 or #0000). I use the #0000 wool on my performance exhaust tips to keep them clean. Afterwards I use some paint sealer to keep them looking good.

IF you black tips are looking really bad maybe a product like this is in order...

Again... I hope Phil will chime in with his vast car detailing knowledge.

The last time I spoke with Dan DetailersDomain , he told me to use soap & water and a lot of elbow grease as using polish may remove the finish.
