Star Spec Tires

With spring coming up I thought it be great to finally get some MPSS to replace the OEM Runflats. Looking through the forums I was on the fence about tire width and whether or not i'd be going up to 225 & 255 when I came across the Star Spec MPSS.
Is there any noticeable difference? Also is there any adverse effects of mixing star spec and non-star spec? It seems that there is only 225-40r18 and 245-35r18 available in star spec so it would have to be a mixed set if I did want to go with these.

I went through this same dilemma recently to try to figure out if it's worth getting the bmw star spec tires. After a bunch of research and getting some info from an engineer at Acura who worked on the new NSX who strongly urged to get the bmw star ones, I would highly recommend doing it. Usually it's about $10 more per tire, but bmw requires the tires to be grippier and be a little more performance oriented. Take a look at this article as well to see if that convinces you.

The only crappy thing is Michelin never made the stock 215's in bmw star variety, so you're either forced to go with 225/245 or 225/255 to have them all be bmw star ones. They make 255s in star variety though. I believe I've seen them on tire rack.

While wholly anecdotal, I did go from non-star PSS to stars in the same sizes on the rears and the car surely felt a lot better, though that could just be attributed to having new tires vs stars vs non-stars. Though hmm, I just looked and don't see the 255s anymore in bmw variety on tire rack. They should exist though.
