Loss of power
I was driving the other day (about 15 minutes into my drive, temp is in the high 80s) trying to overtake another car and heard a snap, didn't sound like a pop (seems to come from front right side) then loss of power. Noticed the sound of the exhaust is different when I accelerate too (lots of noise but pulls very slowly until the engine is at about 3000 rpm then a slight power bump if I take a quick stab at the throttle.). Pulled over to check if it was the charge pipe and it looks good. No check engine light at all. Car should be in the shop today. Anybody here have experienced, heard or know what might be the issue(s)? Thanks. BTW, the car is all stock except for n55 mids.

Sounds very much like the charge pipe. When mine blew under similiar conditions as yours, there was no CEL either.
Check the charge pipe again, may have just popped out slightly or could be from another section down the pipe. |

I have had a coil go out on me during a very similar situation, i.e. passing on the highway. I didn't hear any pop, and I did get a cel. However, the loud exhaust sound and lack of power until around 3k sounds very similar. Had no where to pull off, so I kept on driving. Five minutes later, everything was back to normal. No cel, no loud exhaust, power was back. Took it into the dealership and it was a bad coil. Maybe mine didn't completely go out, but was starting to get darn close.

Thanks for all your input. Took a closer look at the charge pipe and it did come off under the airbox, not sure if it broke or just came off (can't get a clear view). Wasn't able to put the clamp on since I didn't remove the airbox. Hopefully, this is the problem. Car is going in tomorrow, will keep you guys updated.
