Guys -
I'll be posting on Facebook (Neil Simon, Wash, DC). Met Em//1 today. He drove down from Chicago to watch the wet skid pad at Tire Rack hdg in South Bend and the autox at Grissom Air Force Base. Nice guy with a lovely VO 1M. Send me a friend request so you can monitor our progress. Neil |

Neil,
We say you at the performance center on Wednesday. You had the best car! You drove it well too. Thanks for showing people what a 1 series can do. Jim

OK, just a short post.
The 2013 One Lap is now in the books and Woody Hair, my co-driver, and I are now driving home from South Bend, Indiana to Wash, DC. After a slow start and too many mid-pack finishes, we started clawing our way back up. However, we had a set-back at VIR with a failed oil cooler (a much larger, aftermarket Setrab based piece) that prevented me from running the full course in the pm session. As it ends up, this prevented us from successfully defending our 2012 class win. We ended up with strong results in the final two events -- a 17th place finish at BeaveRun (now called Pittsburgh International Race Complex) and a 12th overall on the dry skid pad at Tire Rack hdq, where I pulled 1.022 Gs. These finishes gave us enough in-class points to bring us into a tie with the class-leading car, but he claimed 1st due to One Lap's tie-breaking rules which heavily penalized us for missing the pm event at VIR. C'est le One Lap! With the exception of the non-oem oil cooler problem, the 1M performed with nary hiccup in over 5,000 miles of driving (highway and track) and garnered lots of attention. Had Woody and I driven more consistently, it would have been a top-20 car. And with a really skilled pilot, it could be a top-15 car. This year's event already has me thinking about getting some professional coaching this year, and about getting some aero (wing and splitter) for next year! Neil |

It sounds like a strong showing, and hopefully tons of fun to boot.
The question I must ask: Was the aftermarket oil cooler necessary? (ie are you running a tune?) Its a bummer to have that become an issue. |

Nice go at it Neil. There's nothing worse then having a mechanical issue cost a win. I was in the points lead in class with my race car 2 years ago and had it taken away by mechanical gremlins. I hate the statement but that's racing...
P.S. you need to stuff Clay in the back seat next year.

Don't be envious, join in! Word has it that we'll be heading west next year, perhaps including Miller Motorsports Park outside of Salt Lake City. Neil |
