LCI Tail Lights (Question)

So after further investigation from the previous LCI Taillight thread, there was an issue about "2" different types of LCI's. One for Xenon equipped cars and one for Halogen equipped cars. Dackel posted a picture of the halogen LCI's which looked pathetic compared to the xenon LCI's...

Will the xenon LCI's still work PnP on the 128 halogen cars or do you need coding/new FRM module?

I am assuming that the Xenon LCI Taillights will not work with my halogen car and would require a new FRM module as well as coding to workaround the halogen

These are the part numbers for the Xenon if I'm not mistaken that will be PnP?

I think they will work Satalite, but you should contact Dan @United or Jason at Tischer to make sure. The LCI tails are not that expensive. The LCI tails are cheap at $145 each.

Thanks Dackel. Aacabriolet has already done the conversion with his halogen and he confirmed it is PnP with halogen equipped cars.

I doubt that the LCI "xenon" style tails will work on +12 halogen equipped cars. They probably need to have the headlight switch changed out in order for them to work properly. I would guess that the reason the 08-11 cars can accept the 12+ lights is because they already have LED tails from the factory. I'll be finding out soon enough because I'm working to borrowing a set of 08-11 tails from someone who upgraded to the +12 style, and try them out on my car.

Here is a photo of the +12 style "halogen" tails on my car (Yes, I know it's dirty):

Huge difference between the halogen and xenons... interesting that BMW did not implement them across all cars. The halogens just don't look as clean as the xenons. Never-the-less your terra-cotta interior is another story!

Xenon fronts no. Halogen LCI might require extra wiring for the eyebrow and coding..

More info... On my 7/11 build date 2012 with Halogen fronts and rears, the headlight switch from my old 3/08 build 128i illuminated the halogen tails and did NOT send any error messages to the check control. I opened the switch and compared the boards and they are IDENTICAL. one difference though is that the '12 switch contained 2 plungers for the fog lights as opposed to 1 on the '08 switch. I removed the tabs locking the lower switch in place, and now I have rear fogs, and the indicator illuminated on the dash when switched on.

Now I have to find out if the LED 12+ lights will work in my car without further modifications.

No. But when your (head) lights (or parking lights) are on the Xenon one's LED tubes light up. On the halogen ones they still have something that looks like a tube, just they do not light up!

LCI tail lights (standard/normal, came OE facelift LCI) for Xenon cars with AHL.
#63217273427

^^That is what you want.

...............

LCI Blacklines for Xenon cars with AHL.
#63217327273
#63217327274

LCI Blackline Kit (it is cheaper by ~30 euros or so instead of buying the tail lights individually, contains L&R tails) for Xenon cars with AHL.
#63212225282

and for Halogen cars LCI...

LCI tail lights Blacklines - for Halogen headlights (ie: there is no LED tube that lights up inside the tail light! but it has a tube that looks just like the LED ones!), not for xenon lights and not for AHL.
#63217327275
#63217327276

LCI standard (not Blacklines) OE for Halogen cars without Xenon/AHL

Can someone point me in the direction of a reputable online dealer to purchase standard/normal LCI lights?

I inquired with my local dealership and they wanted $191 per light which is quite a big higher than some of the online dealers. However, I need someone reputable.
