Borla Catback Exhaust Price!!!!!
I started this thread because HP Autowerks did not like my constructive criticism about Borla in their FS thread. Never mind that others commented before and after me basically laughing at them, which I refrained from doing. Again, I wish to point out that I specifically stated that I did not point my criticism directly at HP Autowerks but rather toward Borla for setting this price point.
So here is my reply: Out of all the comments on here, you pick mine that actually gives a bit of constructive criticism. As far as the Quality certifications I am sure they are great for the auto manufacturers, who established them and used to have a higher cost-to-profit ratio to support the on-going support for the certifications, but that cost should not pushed onto the consumer in this particular market. Borla has done this to gain favor with the auto manufacturers and that is all. I am glad that Borla sticks behind their exhaust with the million mile warranty. Manufacturers should do this but not at a significant cost increase. Basically to sum it up: Borla is over-reaching their market here and their sales will suffer due to it. |

HP had a fair point, the price is on the same level as the competition. I agree it's not cheap but you can check out alternative cat-back exhausts and you will see they cost about the same.

RR costs $1400 with JLevi and Borla runs $1800 from HP. The $400 difference is understandable if you take the warantee, certification and brand name into account.

I don't see how a few feet of stainless steel, a muffler, and chrome tips can cost 1800 dollars, certification and R&D included, that's just way too much for an exhaust.

I was just thinking there might be a reason for the price difference. They make their M3 exhausts cheaper? I don't get it anymore... Even BMW has the decency to charge their M3 customers more. |

How does that price compare to the BMW back box? I'm sure BMW has a good name , and did some R&D on it , and offers some kind of warranty

I think they set the price too high. It is even higher than CPE and not as good. I will skip Borla in my purchase.

$1775 is simply a retail price set by Borla. You will likely find thie exhaust system for far less with Borla distributors and dealers. Give them a call and see what they can do for you!

Borla is counting on the saying that "BMW owners will buy anything", but I think they've lost their mind on this one. There's just nothing they could do to the exhaust that would make it worth that much money to me.

Furthermore, I am annoyed to see a "shut up or get out" response to what was a very valid remark in that thread. If a company is concerned of negative comments impacting sales, either don't carry a product at such an absurd price or provide valid reasoning for why the price is not absurd (which is what he tried to do.)
By asking you to take negative comments elsewhere, he sounds like he is unable to defend his product against the accusations presented. I have (and still have) great respect for that vendor, which makes me even more sad to see that comment. |

There's no doubt that Borla is a quality product, but these prices are just absurd, with no legit reasoning behind them other than BMW owners aren't smart enough to realize it. |

So are you saying that you are not an authorized Borla distributor or dealer? If so, how does that affect the warranty since most companies do not deem their warranties valid unless purchased from authorized dealers?
