Spacers on 135i Oem wheels - Thoughts?

Hey guys, I like the stock M double-spoke style rims on my 135i but they could be a little more aggressive offset wise especially in the front. I was wondering if going say 12mm front and 8mm rear would upset the suspension geometry dialed in from factory. Or would it be better to go same front and back say 10mm? I'm not looking for a really aggressive look just closer to flush and I don't want to fork out for wheels as stated I quite like the factory wheels.

Cheers

We've got 15mm spacers on the front and 12mm spacers on the E88 and I feel like it helps the handling quite significantly. Looks much better too. No rubbing and drives fine. Stock suspension and wheels with 215/245s

So you're running 15 on the front? Obviously this reduces the stagger which I can imagine looks better but that seems like a lot for the fronts. I'm reading all sorts of negative things about positive scrub radius when going too wide on the front.

Yep 15 on the front is fine. Stock wheels, stock tyres, stock suspension and no rolling. No rubbing on either the front or back.

It's pretty flush but I'm sure you'd be happy with 12 and 8.

I've got 10mm all round on my car with stock wheels 225/255 tyres. Rears were rubbing before so I've got the rears rolled, fronts are pretty flush.. Rubs VERY minor only when I'm getting up my driveway.

Probably the most relevant picture I've got:

Here are some photos that I just took for you. The spacers were courtesy of @UR25IO. He ran with them as well but on lowered suspension. He had the rears rolled but I'm not too sure if that was because it was rubbing. He has an E82 though.

E88's tend to sit a little lower due to using the same springs but with heavier weight.

As you can see, it doesn't really get much more flush than that without poking.

If you must use spacers remember to replace the wheel bolts for a longer series.
And check the bolt tension with a torque wrench often as they can work loose.

I am not a spacer fan, but sometimes it is a must.

The front is perfectly fine with stock wheels ,tyres (215/40/18) and suspension. Only when you go to a 225/40/18 the tyres will only rub on the clip that holds the front bar to the front quarter pannel.

At the time I had the BMW performance springs installed. That was lowerd - gap between tyres and arch was about 10mm clearence - no rubbing with 215/40/18 stock tyres but did rub on the clip with 225/40/18 P-ZERO.

My rear guards had to be rolled making clearence for the BMW PS when installed, other wise it would fold your rear guards. After when rolled it may slightly rub on 10 o'clock inside. That is over a big bump or hump at speed.

Going to coilover-you would not have any of these rubbing problem due the suspension being much stiffer as I have experience.

Cheers for the input guys, froop that looks great, perfectly flush. I just wonder if BMW used a staggered set up for a reason. Im thinking i might go 10 or 12 all round to at least keep the staggered set up.

Staggered setups I believe are usually to keep the car's behaviors more understeery, especially for a powerful rear wheel drive car. This is supposed to be safer than a tail happy rear wheel drive car.

Of course once you significantly up the power, no amount of extra rear rubber over the front helps lol.

A lot of regular trackers go for a square setup to make the car more neutrally balanced.

Don't use 8mm spacers as your wheels will no longer be hub centric.

5, 10, 12, 15, 18 etc are all fine.. but 8mm means your wheels will no longer sit on the hub.

Hmmm..... I used H&R hubcentric 8mm on the front my B7 A4 and they were a perfect fit. But I notice there is no listing for 8mm for the 135i on ecs. Oh well.

The hub lip on 135i is 10 or 11mm.
So a 5mm spacer is just a slip on but leaves a lip of about 6mm, that's the biggest slip on I would run.
Then you need to step up to at least 10mm to get a hubcentric one.

Certainly looks like a good idea but when I read the website I feel like im buying a network marketing gimmick:

Machined out of T6061-T6 aircarft grade aluminum
surgical grade precision tolerances
Motorsport inspired pentagon shaped design
Anodized in a matte gunmetal finish for additional strength

Sorry for being a cynical f&$k but its sounds like wank.

had a set of BMS 12mm spacers on for a while and didn't really like the feel of it. Made it feel a bit too soft sprung. It looked good though

Interesting, how do you mean soft sprung? I had a set on my A4 Quattro and the only issue i had was the fronts seemed to track the grooves in the road more which made the front feel a little more skittish. But the same thing can happen when you go to a bigger wheel as well.

Yes it does seem to tramline a lot more too. I think the "softer" feeling comes from the extended lever effect by the spacers. Never had low offset wheels fitted so can't comment if it feels the same. Although usually with wheels you'd normally go wider as well.

Hey guys Im a bit confused,

I notice on the ecs website that for H&R spacers they recommend using 40mm extended bolts with 10mm spacers http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...Spacers/ES249/ and 43mm bolts with 12mm spacers http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...Spacers/ES252/.

But for ecs brand spacers they recommend 35mm bolts for 10mm spacers http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...acers/ES11297/ and 39mm bolts for 12.5mm spacers http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...acers/ES11298/ WTF?

I thought the oem bolt size was 26mm? this would make 36mm and 38mm?

Anyone know why the difference?

Cheers

Hope you're still on here but here goes nothing... I was wondering if you could help. I have an e88 and I'm getting a ridiculous amount of rubbing in the front when I hit bumps. I recently changed out my suspension to Eibach Springs 0.8 F / 0.5 R, Koni Yellows, and front M3 Control arms. I'm currently not running camber plates as we felt we didn't need too and I also have 15mm spacers all around. We did an alignment and the car is dead straight but I currently have quite a front end shimmer at highway speeds. Not sure what would be causing this? I'm still on stock wheels and plan on keeping them for awhile. Any suggestions? Tips or tricks? Thanks.

I'd almost guarantee it's unbalanced wheels. Once I dropped mine on the same kit I had to re-balance my wheels coincidentally.
