135i Diff Pinion Seal Nut Removal Tool

Looking to address the pinion seal leak on my 135i. I can get the 50mm insert nut off, that is pretty standard. The one that needs special tool is the 12 teeth (red arrow) giant nut that holds the preload.

Before I spend $200 on ECS kit on the link below, wondering if you guys have one that you want to sell or if you have done this before, I'd be interested what tool did you use.

Thanks

Might be an oil filter wrench that might fit. I've never looked.

Ok, I still have to hold the spline while loosening the nut though. I would need to a female spline adaptor to hold it.

I bought this set from Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This should to the trick, but I gave it all I got but I could not remove the freaking nut!. It must be more than 250lbf-ft tight.

If I have the car lifted high, I probably could get better leverage. The leak is not too bad, I'll do this another day when I do the suspension refresh and take the entire diff off the frame.

when i had to open mine i used a 64mm 12 contacts ring wrench and oddly enough i have found out that a 3 gear cog from a an old audi A3 fits right on the spline of the pinion perfectly, so i made these two tool and used them to open up the pinion seal

I could not get that nut off. That nut is gotta be more than 200 lbf-ft. Perhaps I need to start going to the gym more often...

Did you apply heat or anything?

i did not apply any heat,

i welded the 3rd gear cog to a 1 meter iron bar and mounted the ring i made on a flat surface, and then worked in a slow and steady pace, took me something like 10-15 mins to unscrew that thing, but i made it without too much effort, just slow work of quarter of a turn at a time
i can take a pic of the tools i have made when i drop by my warehouse next week
