If you're ditching the RFT's what'll you do in case of a flat?

I occasionally do, but I'm certainly not going to plan my car on my occasional trips to buttphucknowhere.

I'm also very comfortable with not being prepared for earthquakes and alien attacks in my 135i.

It's a huge world out there, you should stretch your cars legs some more. I've been there done that on the city thing, see you live in Chi town. I grew up in NY and MIA. That's not driving man. I live in Europe now, land of the black forest, the alps, and the like. Go out to the mountains man, go to the coast, explore! Maybe you'll be a happier person and spend less time criticizing people's posts.

I think it's excellent that you're into living in rural areas, but the demographics in North America indicate an opposite trend.

Bottom line is that the cars come with Roadside Assistance, and the VAST majority of the miles covered by BMW owners will also be within reach of a cel tower.

...and for the 1% or less that are not and don't have a spare tire, then I guess they should try the can of magic goo. And if that doesn't work, they better start squealin like a pig, cause they're probably stuck in West Virginia.

Apparantly you were never a boy scout.

The couple times I have had a flat it would have been a huge inconvenience to wait around for roadside assistance. It usually takes them a good hour to get anywhere. At minimum it would be wise to carry a repair kit.

What's with all the attacks on bradford? He's willing to take the risks of running with only a few options that may or may not work out in the right situation. It's a calculated risk, everyone's calculation is different.

There is always the possibility of runflats being so messed up you can't drive on them, or having multiple flat tires if you are carrying a spare. You can never be prepared for every situation.

IMHO it's a small investment preventing further inconvenience on an already shit situation, and yes even when within service areas.

The 1 time I actually road side assistance when I had a flat, they told me all they would do was come and put on my spare anyway. I was like so... you want me to wait god knows how long for something I can do in 10 mins...
If you swap the rft's and get non-rf's I'm not sure bmw will assist you. Utilizing rft's was probably a cost cutting initiative on their part at our expense.

Weight savings for sure.

Offering rf's likely didn't result in many additional sales (weight savings aren't of much interest to the majority of bmw owners unfortunately), but rft's surely will cut down on costly road side assistance calls.

I've had a "Tire Slime" kit (goo + compressor) and a mobile phone on standby for 2.5 years and 45K miles. So far, so good, no need for either. That could change any time, but it's a chance I'm willing to take. Add AAA to that and we should all be able to sleep at night. RFT's blow.

The one time I've had a flat in my current car was rear driver side on the interstate with just enough median before barricade for my car to fit in.

In order to put the donut on, I wouldve had to stick my butt out into traffic. No thanks. I didnt feel like getting clipped by a trophy wife on her cell-phone in her yukon denali. So the one time where I needed to use the donut, I couldn't.

Carrying a fix-a-flat or something similar would be a good idea in the event my cellphone is dead, no service, or whatever.

not a bad idea for a daily driver.

but if I pick up a 135, it will be a 2nd car, so carrying around a 5th wheel in the trunk seems a bit excessive for a weekend car.

And in the US, BMW Assist and Roadside is FREE for the first 4 years. :biggrin:
