FRM Warranty Extension

Haven't been here in a while...

Got a letter from BMW today saying they are extending their warranty on my FRM(lighting module) to 10yrs/156Kmiles ... and that they would reimburse a qualifying repair already made provided I am able to submit documentation.

I'm pretty sure I have the receipts for getting FRM replaced on the Mini. I need to apply for the reimbursement.

Did it say it applied to all 1ers? Or only specific ones?

I went there and it didn't give any specific information. I did plug in my VIN and it took me to a web page where I could submit a claim.

But doing some searching I found this which is very specific on the specifics of the FRM warranty extension:

https://bimmerscan.com/wp-content/up.../B012016-1.pdf

Looks to me it's on all model year 2010 to 2013 E82/E88s.

I assume that if it shows up for your VIN, it's included.
It showed up for a VIN of my previous 328i and on my 135i, but nothing for my X3. I learned about this site last night, someone posted it on the X3 forum, thought it was pretty cool.

I also got this letter this week. I think I need to get this done seeing that for the first time the other day I went to unlock my car by way of comfort access and I heard the gas door unlock and the mirrors folded down but the doors would not unlock. Tried a couple more times and then a couple with the key and it finally opened. I drove it today and it wouldn't unlock with comfort access and it also said "increased battery discharge" on the idrive. Anyone know if these are symptoms?

That's not an FRM issue.

You need to drive longer/charge your battery and/or replace it if it's bad.

Also note the extended warranty on the FRM is not a "recall", so it's not a call for change of the part, but if it is found defective and needs replacing, it may be done free of charge if the car is still under warranty.

I was told the frm controls the door locks is that not true? I do feel the battery is getting weak though. Still the original.

Posted this in another thread but thought it should be posted here as well:

The footwell module (FRM) is an electrical nodal point in the footwell on the drivers side. The footwell module picks up the signals from the doors and controls the lighting. The footwell module also controls the adaptive headlights. The footwell module is also the interface to the dashboard.

The following components deliver signals for the footwell module:

Height sensors
Reversing light switch
Brake light switch
Hazard warning flasher switch
Light switch
Driver’s door switch block
Door contacts in front doors
Driver’s door lock

Just out of curiosity, what led to the failure of your FRMs?

On the Mini nothing. A few interior lights stopped working sporadically & it threw a code. The bad thing is reprogramming it requires updating the entire car which takes a while.

Does this have anything to do with CA/remote signal/response? Mine has not been working right for a while now. Have changed the battery in my remote twice and my car battery is new.

Are you having a problem with the door locks? Because that might be the FRM (see my post above). Not sure how or if it affects CA, though.

Yep, when I try to unlock/lock the car nothing happens sometimes with either CA or just using the buttons on the remote.

Then you should check with your dealer and see if it's a problem with your FRM and if an extended warranty will cover it.

My warranty will cover it regardless I would just be curious if it's a common issue, every time I search on it it's just hundreds of threads with "change the battery in the remote" in them lol

Oh, that's right, forgot you have your own aftermarket warranty. You don't need BMW's stinkin' extended warranty. lol

PS - hope I won't need it either. Means my luck is still holding out.

Yeah I'd prefer BMW to cover it though it's less of a hassle haha. We'll see! Waiting on news from my SA. You're "luck" is more likely good ownership practices and less angst-ridden driving than I lol. I keep up on maintenance but this car does not have an easy going life!
