Excellent produced video. I've only had my 1M here in the UK for 2 months now & can't see another car I would want to replace.
I've always liked the styling of the 1 series Coupes, so for me the 1M was the ultimate incarnation of this. Although I like the looks of the M2's compared with the larger BMW models, it doesn't look as special as the 1M to me.
Factor in I only use my car for dry weekends with a max mileage of 5k a year (if that) then the 1M suits my purpose, of a special, rare car to take out for fun.
The final factor is the 1M only just squeezes in to my small (UK) garage along with my sports bike, whereas the M2 just about won't.

Thats a good point on size... the 1M is small... and really BMW wont ever make a car that size again. they are pretty set on going large! A bit annoying really.
Thank you for watching... please consider subscribing.

I loved the point about turning off the sound in a tense horror movie scene....excellent analogy!

Everyone talks about the hydraulic power steering versus electronic power steering conundrum. I'm not sure that is where the problem lies necessarily. There is no question that BMW has not yet come up with the right cocktail to make electronic power steering as communicative as their previous hydraulic set ups.

I had a 2005 Mazda RX8 before my 1M, and it's electronic power steering set up was precise, communicative, and felt absolutely amazing. That may have had to do with how light the car is and how different its weight balance is, but it never suffered as a result of having electronic power steering. Last year, I bought another RX8 for my son to use to learn to drive on the track with me. Getting back into that car now, I am just amazed at how well Mazda did with the electronic power steering set up. It truly is remarkable, and communicates as well as my 1M. Case in point: I took the RX8 to my local dealer to have a few issues tended to when I bought it. I forgot it had EPS and asked them to do a power steering fluid flush on it since it's 13 years old and destined for the track. When they called me and said it's electronic, no flush needed, I was shocked and amazed. I had forgotten, and the car's feel and behavior certainly didn't remind me. It's a different car then the 1M altogether.....but I LOVE driving it.

I am looking forward to getting my CS soon, and will be sure to post my impressions.

Mazda is on a roll with driving dynamics for the money... as well as really nice design. I am a fan. Though I have never owned a Mazda to date.

I agree Mazda has made an effort, probably because of their experience and success with the Miata. One of the original reasons for electric steering was the parasitic loss of a hydraulic pump always running. Mazda tried an electric hydraulic pump so you could get the efficiency but still have hydraulic steering. Sadly BMW just lost track of the driver focus. Nowadays the electric steering is used for self parking etc so this wouldn't work but I applaud Mazda for trying.

Mazda has more than just the Miata... They have been in various racing categories for a while now... they even have Laguna Seca in their name... all for a reason

I just think they need to product a new desirable car that people want to drive again... maybe something to compete with the 86 platform?

Sadly, their RX lineup was the best to do that. I don't think we will ever see a rotary powered car again....there is just no way to meet modern efficiency standards, not to mention the reliability issues. I know how to properly care for the renesis (and will make sure my son dies too) and they actually do better when driven hard, so it should last us a while with mostly track use. Fingers crossed.

Yes, I didn't mean that's all they have. Mazda continue to try was the point but I kept the point to hydraulic vs electric steering. Mazda has always maintained a presence in motorsports from their spec RX7, Miatas, RX8s and Mazdaspeed stuff. They are more of a transporation company trying to maintain and edge in motorsports and excitement, whereas BMW was a company that gained its reputaiton on motorsports and driving dynamics but has lost interest in it.

Mazda philosophy is build fun, great handling cars. They are never the fastest, but they are fun to DRIVE. BMWs philosopy now is build cars that check all the statistical and feature boxes. Fast 0-60 Time...check. Power folding trunk...check, whatever-new-no-one-ever-asked-for-but-will-break-and-be-unreasonable-to-repair gadget....check.

Big high-five to Mazda

Thanks for watching!
As for my shirt, I got it from www.Blipshift.com. However they make shirts for a small window of time and then they stop production. you can email them to see if they will make it for you though.

Take care

Fantastic video. I think I've seen all of your 1M related content in near real time. The evolution of your videos is impressive. The filming, choreography, and script of this one was professional quality. Also personally really enjoyed your perspective and commentary. Well done.

Love the conversation about Mazda. Living in Japan I inevitably see an fd3s every few weeks. They NEVER fail to grab my attention. Pristine stock. More money than brains high quality modifications. Boy racer rat mobiles. They all look great. I've also had the pleasure driving one. They are true driver's cars. An fd3s fanatic friend of mine used to regularly beat my other friends in tricked out Evos and stock R35s at Fuji Speedway. Of course this included frequent motor rebuilds as pumped rotaries fail fast... Mazda the true scrappy underdog of the Japan sports car culture.

Great video blackmist!

Yes, exactly! It's that visceral connection to the car that hooked me in.

I test drove 2 OG M2's before my 1M purchase, I felt it lacking that special connection. I wanted to love it and just didn't. My first drive in the 1M was amazing with great feedback and connection. The decision was simple and quick!

Now, I obviously did not compare it to the Competition.....so, I'm not sure how the OG feels in comparison to the competition.

You're a lucky guy to own those two wonderful cars. I love the 1M and would really like to drive it one day. I need that modern tech in the M2C. Like I said, lucky to have both. Congrats on a very nice video.

Question: who is the white haired gentleman in the 1M at the end, if I might ask?
