Correct. Lease only, and only in six metropolitan markets. Two years with no option to buy it at the end. This is a test program, not a production car.

Very fast off the line and passing cars from 40mph => 60mph...the HP numbers don't do EVs justice...It feels faster than 335i and M3. I guess its because it takes a second or two to rev up over 3,500 rpm in those cars. How often do you keep the engine at 6,000RPM?

Wow congrats! Question regarding the battery life. I assume highway driving would get you the most miles than stop/go city? And if you do end up traveling more than 100 miles how do you recharge if there is no available station?
And with these things BMW says it takes 4 hours for a full charge? Guess you get the hang of the limits of the car and don't have to be towed

Just curious; do you think larger rims will affect the range much?
I switched from 17" to 18" on my 128i, and even though they are supposedly about equal in weight, I definitely feel the car is a little less quick to pick up speed now. |

Thats the inertia effect of moving the heaviest part of the wheel (the barrel) further out from the center.

I heard the same thing from the German 1er forum guys. This is why they stay with 17"s - for better acceleration. Also it's a sure bet that BMW's ActiveE has low (rolling) resistant tires. The so called: "energy" or "Eco" tires. These eco tires can really extend a car's MPG (fuel consumption) by reducing tire drag. For an electric car I think trick tires are in order. I would not be surprised if the alloy wheels are of some exotic ($$$ and light) alloy. |

The most important question.
Does it drift?

^^yes, that is the trade off. These eco tires don't handle as well... and the main thing about them is the stopping distances are MUCH longer than normal tires. But they do extend the fuel economy of the engine, thru less rolling resistance.
I don't think the average driver of a ActiveE is going to be pushing their car to the limit. They are instead looking for an alternative "city car". |

I would say what that entails, but BMW might take the car away if they found out. |

The brochure had a listing for 17 inch wheels as an option with runflats but when I went to the dealer he didn't really know about that
The car comes standard with 16 inch rims and low resistance rolling tires. I'm pretty sure the rims are just regular ones. Light allow 16 wtih V spoke 260. I'm thinking of just putting 18s, with some michelin PSS on them, do you think it'll drastically effect performance? Last edited by bgwelistyl; 01-23-2012 at 12:08 PM.. |

I'd guess you're going to get worse mileage...but you'll get more grip and look better
