Gratz Way, good that most forum members have early allocations. Hopefully others will get theirs soon.

We should start a 1M register - may be through BMW Club?

A canadian guy has actually taken delivery of his 1M from the factory. Go to the U.S. 1addicts site and check out the thread - "First 1M coupe delivery! BSM 1M European delivery 5th April".
One of most generous posts I've ever seen. Also check out how many views the thread has. A lot of interest.

Well my dealer has given me a chassis number and says it is a definite April build...he said his advice was that it is being built "now". On line for a June delivery. Hooray!

Yes, matte black. BMW has frozen grey and frozen black in their range. My friend had a frozen grey M5 and I rather like it!

From the Welt release..... off the US 1Addicts site.

Front Strut Bar – If you din’t see it on the marketing cars….you will…There is a massive metal ring on the top of each strut tower that has beams attached to them that run back to the firewall. Completely different than the 135i
Extra Water Cooler: Driver side front
Upgraded Power Steering Cooler
Upgraded Rack Ratio
Completely different tune, although on a very similar engine. – We were describing how we were driving the car trying to make the appointment at M and one engineer told me, “the only reason you haven’t spun it is becuase you left the traction control on….” He also dropped that this would occur because….there is more under that pedal than might be printed in a brouchure….
Lightweight Flywheel, a lot lighter, as described to us, its as light as could possibly be used in a dual mass application.
Dry Sump Light weight transmission, totally new for this application
New Driveshaft, lightweight to addapt to the new transmission
M3 Differentialwith dynamics for the shorter wheelbase considered with integrated cooling fins
Complete M3 suspension – Control Arms, Shocks, and other components. The shocks use the stock points as the M3s do, however, they are completely different for compression and rebound, similarly the bushing are the same size etc, however, are cast for the 1M application, Sway Bars and something else I’m forgetting right now..

Derek, the lucky owner picking up this car, makes mention of something of particular interest to me, namely the lively steering. 2.2 turns lock to lock.

I am also very interested in the throttle response. I find my 335i to be very lazy not only in it's action but also it's response. And not because it's an auto, that's a separate laziness. Hopefully the reduced flywheel mass will compensate here. The good things about most of the rest of the items mentioned above are a given due to their M3 origins and M division development. Looking good.

Steve, any word yet from your end re shipping of our cars through Willenius Wilhelmsen?

re the throttle response.. this is something i asked him about specifically his reply was....

" Throttle Response - jc-on-the-vc, the throttle response is much better than previous models, and even better again using the M-Button. I'm big supporter of Sprint Booster, but I'm not sure this car will need one. I'll try it out when it gets home and let you know."

Thanks JC. I did see that part.
Whilst I am encouraged by what he says it is a subjective observation. What he calls "much better" may still be sluggish for me. Being realistic I am not expecting Yamaha R6 type snappiness however it would be great to have the sort of throttle response that assists heel and toe without the rev guesswork of my current car.
I noticed that Derek's friend Steve was wearing a shirt with a "Sprint booster" logo. I checked the site and the product looks very interesting.
It got me to thinking about my current car and I realised that when I initiate a forced down change using steptronic the engine road speed matches the down change quite responsively. My guess then is that this is purely computer controlled and doesn't utilise the throttle as such. As I understand the Sprint Booster product it over rides the computer mapping of the standard throttle peddle to simulate ( if I can put it that way ) a quicker throttle response via drive by wire.
So, if the 1M is not as I hope I will be placing a query with Sprint Booster re a 1M application.
Another hope is that the the peddle configuration and brake modulation is conducive to heel and toe. If the brakes are grabby at low speed it makes smooth slow speed heel and toe awkward. Not sure what what to do about this one if it falls short. Maybe a race shop fix.
Just my little peccadillos.

You will. BMW has said (apparently - I only heard this 3rd hand) that all cars will be delivered by Dec this year.

Btw, I realised you were very quiet when I mentioned your 1M when I bumped into you guys. I realise why afterwards - your mum and dad were there! It's funny that a successful specialist doctor in his mid thirties still has to worry about what his parents say about his car purchases. Do what I do man, just don't let them see it.

Hmm, I sure hope the 1M doesn't have R6 like low rev throttle response! Torque? What torque? I think you don't really have to worry about this aspect of it. Sure, a turbo is never going to have the throttle response of a NA car (when in doubt about this, go drive a GT3), but my X5M wasn't half bad. In fact the X5M with the M button set up properly is great with its throttle response. Also I don't recall my 135i being bad on it either(although not as good as the C63 I had at the same time - you being a C63 owner you know what I mean!), but then again I have heavy right foot lol. Which brings me to sprint booster. What sprint booster does is basically the same as you stepping on the right pedal harder for a given amount of pressure by your right foot. So yes, for the same pressure as before, it will feel like it has better "throttle response", but in actual fact it is sending more fuel in to burn. I can tell you from my experience of the "M button" that it does really make the throttle response better, so I am not too concerned about that.

As for the pedal setup, I suspect it will be like the 135i. By that I mean it is ok for heel/toe, but not great as one pedal is too high relative to the other (I think brake pedal is too high relative to throttle). Brakes are not over boosted like say Audis hence not grabby at low speed based on experience with my M3, so I think you will be right there too.
