I think at the time when you modified your 135i you were limited to choice of mods but I think the biggest handicap for that car was the Active Autowerke piggyback tune. We were neck and neck and to my surprise I was able to just beat it every time. I'm sure the same car with a JB3/Procede would be a monster. However, Adrian is getting the RB turbo soon anyway so we'll see some big numbers from that car, around 450-500whp!
Thanks BMW86! The brakes, suspension and diff were chosen because they were the best possible out there at the time (well, until Dontask killed my diff by using the car as a dragster lol). That car is quick, very very quick, but not in a straight line. The brief of this car is that it will be a quick and realiable track car, and emphasis is on reliable. Hence why I chose AA piggyback. At the time the early JB were also available with more power, but I didn't want something with such high boost as the impact on these engines were unknown back then (we now know they are pretty bullet proof). So yeah, not surprised that the newer JB's are kicking my old car's butt.

If you want to see what a fully modded 135i will do compared with a stock 1M, look here: http://translate.google.com/translat...g-3253794.html

They did .3s faster per lap at Hockenheim, and that's with semi-slicks, diff, clubsports, and 380hp!

Everybody likes something else. I, myself am not into tracking my BMW except for 1/4 mile. I'm after straight line speed and WAY is after a track car.

Going to dyno tomorrow so will post up dyno results soon.

So the 135i is the winner

I'm with Way, I'll take the track and those bendy things any day over some TLGP action. Will be ordering a set of lightweight 18" wheels and tyres for track duty on the 1M.

I think you may find the 1M straight line speed comparable to dontask's 135i in a straight line. I was actually the one racing him down the drag strip when his diff broke. We had an entertaining first run, we were very evenly matched, and then on 2nd start it happened. I think you will be blown away by a JB4/Procede N54. Knowing how much you track your car I am sure you will be making some tweaks to your 1M when the time comes and I'll be following your build closely. However, I think you will be very pleased with how it performs out of the box though.

Are you serious? After mod cost - the car is 79990 euro, compare to 40990 euro stock. The 1M is 50500 euro. Didn't really want to get into 1m vs modding the 135i earlier - but the conclusion that 135i is the winner is way off. If anything, it really shows how much you need to spend to have the car get it to the 1M stock level.

0.3 difference is an eternity, but comparing two times set by different drivers on a different day is just not possible. Put some semi slicks on any car, it would easily improve by 0.3 if not more.

+1. Otherwise, just drop in a S63.

PS: N54 = 195kg, N55 = 175kg, S65 is interestingly only 202kg.

S63 as in the big lump in front of my old blue car? Haha, now that is a dragster! I have to admit that I wouldn't mind seeing a 1M with S65!

Put it on your mod list Way! We want time comparisons too! Might want to replace the bonnet to give you a better weight distribution. Andrew - that's your new project.

The best from M3 and 1M - sweet.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a Pagani Zonda and be done with it?
No wait, then it would be "just drop a Veyron engine in it".

That's the trouble/fun with modding, there really is no limit.

That would be a drag strip only special - wouldn't the W16 weigh as much as the Zonda?

Haha spot on Gazz. Sorry to disappoint everyone here, but I'm planning to keep the 1M "fairly" stock. My plan is to enter this car in production category in Australian Tarmac Challenge. The last two times I raced in ATC in VIC, a STI and a S5 has won the production car category, despite there being a CSL that races in it. I want BMW to win this!

Way to go...umm Way.

Beric Lynton, the dealer principal of my dealer, is looking at aquiring a left hook 1M to race in Oz. He has raced an E46 M3 previously. I am hoping to see 1Ms in the Bathurst 12 hour production race and certainly in some of the rallies such as Targa Tasmania.

Don't really want to get into the 135 v 1M debate either, but there are those of us who want to be track junkies, and those who want to have a great street car. Get which one you want and have fun with it!

ps- I'm a street guy as I use the car everyday and have not been to a track (only the 1/4mile)

Why not? Fora are for debating. All credit to the Australian 1addicts site for it's level of maturity and friendship. One of the best I've seen. There's no harm in having an opinion on the merits of your car vs another. It's what, in some cases, we are passionate about. It amuses me, ( in a condescending way, having the benefit of being a member of this forum ), to see some of the virulent responses to seemingly innocent remarks on other sites. Particularly the, dare I say it, U.S of A ( in Southern redneck accent ) site. No wonder these guys are at war with everyone. It's either an insult relating to ones mother, having a cap busted in yo ass, or Jesus will send you to hell. Okay, this is generally with non 1addicts stuff but I had to write it. The US guys have an overriding obsession with 0 - 60 mph times. It beats me why they don't just all drive around in AA fuelers. What's refreshing about the Aussie site is that our obsessions have an overriding sense of perspective. To paraphrase a golf adage - It's not your wife, it's not your life, it's just cars.

Now where's my 1M?
