At the risk of being called soft I probably won't drag or track my (wifes ) car.
I just have an appreciation for BMW and M cars, have done so for 15 years, owning, driving and cleaning them is what I get my kicks out of. So there is I guess another group out there who buy these sorts of cars. On the mod debate (the oldest debate since the bible was written I think), I want a FACTORY warranted car that is reliable looks great and goes hard. I lease my cars so modding is just money that i don't have and is non depreciable (legally anyway) so serios stuff won't happen. I have some BIG wheels on my M3 and an exhaust, probably the same will happen with the 1. If the car looks good to me then I am still interested in it and can stay in the garage, otherwise I will be onto some thing else, as per Way (though not anywhere near as frequently). The other reason for me to want and own a 1M is that, IMO, the car will be a relatively good investment (wrong word I know) in terms of relativity to other cars in this price bracket. ie; I bought a $115k RRP TTS and sold it for nearly $90k after 12 months, luckily I only paid $90k for it. What I am getting at here is that the 1M will hold $ better than most if not all equivalently priced cars 12 - 24 months from now Anyway gys enjoy your 1 series, they are a great car 1M or 135 etc, whatever you decide to do with them. |

So when is Steve B and Gazz getting their cars, must be soon, noting that NPV, Lava and my car is due to land in Aus over the next 2.5 to 3 weeks (mine in 18 days).

Mine lands in Brisbane on 19th May. Expect 7 - 10 days for delivery. Strangely, mine is the only 1M on its' ship, the Taiko. The rest bound for Australia, 10 in all from what I ascertain of the manifest, are on another ship, the Topaz Ace. Mine left Bremen on 8th April, the others later on.
The only thing I can work out is that mine is a very special hand built exclusive project by a coterie of the best engineers in a secret workshop deep in the inner sanctum of M. They occasionally let one of these ultra special cars loose to oblivious customers with a knowing giggle as it leaves the factory doors. It can only be that. No, no. I heard those special cars were on the Topaz Ace. The one on the Taiko is a training car put together by BMW's 16 year old apprentices. Apparently the QA guys are (reasonably) certain that they found all the defects. . . |

The ship carrying our cars just chugged past Cape Town. Crazy part is that I'm flying to South Africa on business in two days time . . . surely something could be arranged!! The new South Africa delivery program . . . unfortunately it includes a car jacking.

Mine arrives in Fremantle on 16 May so the Topaz Ace must be the very fast sleek chromium plated vessel reserved for cars headed for WA. I expect its overtaking the Taiko and the training cars about now. However, it will stay in the customs/cleaning/compliance shed for a few weeks as they do.

I think you'll find the first 2 months of production is always done by the apprentices - they do need to learn after all. The 3rd month i.e. May is where the elite M-Engineers, having recovered from all the design process, step in and carefully, gently and with all that Germanic precision put a few cars together.

So Steve, you will most likely be THE first 1M owner in Australia! I assume that there is only one car allocation / build for Perth you are it and your's arrives before Gazz's car.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Funny, the March build cars will not get to Aus before the April build ones, with the exception of Gazz of course (by a few days). The Mrs and I are planning on driving the M3 from here in sunny Canberra to Melbourne to pick up the 1M then convoy the two AW cars home. Should be fun, especially with the 1M not having registration plates, just a 48 hour permit label on the dash (speed cameras don't work real well on cars that legally drive around without registration plates ). |
