Help needed: How to remove Adaptive Headlight Failed message
I bought an 08 135i convertible this past spring and I love the car.
When I bought the car I noticed that the "adaptive headlight failed" message always appeared at start up and it remained on permanently. When I asked the dealer about the error message on the dash he mentioned that the previous owner had upgraded the headlights to the newer style angel eyes headlights. I suspect that the car previously had the halogen headlights and now that it's lacking the proper leveling sensors it's always spitting out the error code. Does anyone know how to program the ECU so that message no longer appears? Does anyone know if it's possible to code the adaptive headlights out? |

They should make it right...
Is it a BMW dealership?

Yes it was purchased from a dealer. They seem to be clueless in being able to do so. Their answer was to live with the error code.
Ironically enough...the car has a CPO warranty on it. I thought of going back to a different BMW dealer for warranty but I suspect the answer will be the same. I've always been under the impression that BMW dealerships are not the most knowledgeable when it comes to after market mods/changes. |

Dude I would of given them an ultimatum, fix the headlights or no deal. You bought it already so now it's on you, good luck.

How is it a CPO if it has aftermarket AE's? They should have sold you a stock vehicle, right? I would press them harder about it. Absolutely unacceptable to ask you to live with the code on a CPO (IMO, anyway).
And if it came from the factory with halogens, it wouldn't even have leveling sensors and could not throw that code.

Not sure. The sales guy mentioned that the previous owner wanted updated/newer style headlights on this 08.

CPO should cover issues like these. I would go to another dealer for sure. And if that doesnt work ask to speak with BMWNA

Doesn't the CPO just mean that the vehicle comes with the BMW extended warranty?
From what I understand, a BMW dealer can add the extended BMW warranty on any used BMW vehicle as long as it's within a certain amount of years and less than a certain amount of mileage? |
