E88 N54 Failed Chargepipe?

So was driving down the road today, and went to pass a truck. I booted it, and after about two seconds there was a loud pop, the car shows a half-filled engine light on the dash. And it feels like the limp mode cuts half the power.

I pulled over and turned the car off and then on again. The light seemed to go away, but when I went above 3,500ish RPM the light came back on again.

Did I blow my chargepipe or is it something more serious? Other than this the car drives fine and pulls ok before 3,500.

Sounds very much like CP failure.

If you pop the hood and look at the connection of the CP to the throttle body you will almost for sure see a fractured pipe connection.

(Also as a side note your post ended up in the 1M section of 1addicts.)

Hope so!

Are chargepipes expensive to replace? The part seems to be roughly $100, and I assume labour isn’t bad for something that out in the open.

(Crap, didn’t mean to go to the 1m. But same engine I guess.)

I don't think it is massively expensive.

If you are reasonably handy it is very within the reach of the average DIYer even though it's kind of an annoying process with a cramped engine bay.

Some people like replacing with an aftermarket metal CP that uses the factory throttle body C-clip connection to reduce the likelihood of going through the same thing in the future.

It’s your charge pipe. Get a metal aftermarket so it’ll never happen again. As above it can be an annoying swap but so is the Oem. Dont waste your money on a repair shop. Just use that same money to buy a VRSF or BMS. You can buy it with the bov (Vroom Sttt) or without it won’t make a difference to performance. Good luck!
