I Sold My 2011 135i

I am sad to say I sold my 2011 135i M sport this morning. I sold it back to the dealership. I brought the car in last week for an oil change and to diagnose a noise. It turns out my 6-speed manual transmission is bad. There were metal shavings in the fluid. I also knew I needed brakes and tires soon. The car has 103,000 miles and of course no warranty. The dealer offered me $11,000 knowing my issues and I took it.

I also own a 2018 M2 with only 15,000 miles. I have decided to make the M2 my daily.

The odd thing is my son has a 2013 135is and his 6-speed manual transmission went out last month with only 68,000 miles. He still had a powertrain warranty.
I will truly miss my 135i. Those that have had or still have one can surely understand.

Beautiful car and I'm not biased (jk coral red on AW here).

Understandable. I think I would've done the same. Enjoy the M2!

Let's see if they actually warn the new owner about the problem or just change the oil and pretend nothing is wrong. If the new owner finds this post in the future, he or she may not be very happy.

Geeze. Sorry to hear that. What did they attribute the cause of both failed 6 speed transmissions? Different reasons?

I am glad to let you know one of the finance mangers is going to buy it and ordered the new transmission today. The dealership staff knows my car and the great care I had taken of it. I am glad someone I know will buy it and get the transmission fixed.

I am 68 years old and have never abused the car. I hope when they put the new transmission in they may look at the current one and come up with what the issue may have been.

Sounds like you made the right financial decision selling it now. A lot of people say a manual trans is more reliable and cheaper to repair than a good conventional automatic, but I don't think that is always true. I don't like the programming of the auto in my 128i but that's another topic.

Thanks I think I made the right choice! I always thought the manual was supposed to be more reliable also. I am about to retire and really didn't need the extra car. Everyone at the dealership was always wanting to buy it. I had MP exhaust, BMW power pak tune, M3 front and rear subframe bushings, M3 sway bar on the front, M3 control arms, BMW short shift, Koni shocks Eibach springs and 1M strut bar. I changed the oil every 5,000 miles or less. The guy that bought it is going to fix it and use as a daily driver as he has an M550. He really wanted a manual. The 1 series is an awesome car in my opinion and I will miss it as my daily driver.

I had my 6MT in my 2012 replaced under warranty @ 22K mi.

Don't remember the exact diagnosis, but it was whining and thunking at low speed.
