Few questions...

is it normal for the car to shake/shudder when you start it up?? It's not so much trembling but shudders real quick (cold start).

secondly- I know that after a minute of warming up, we can pretty much do anything to the car. I usually warm it up for about 40 seconds or so and drive it out. I live really close to the freeway so it normally takes about 2 or 3 minutes to get there. Of course I'll be going 70-80. So my question is : is this safe? should I maybe drive it around for a few more minutes before getting on the freeway?? the reason why Im asking about this is that I sometimes notice the engine is lagging. Sometimes I have to stop by a place for 10-15 minutes. When I drive it again the engine would feel sluggish. It gas pedal feels a little bit heavy and there's a lil groan coming from the engine.

Thirdly-I've noticed that the marks on the Tach (between 6750- 7000RPM) are always white now. Even if I start it up after 3 or 4 days of none-driving, they're still white. Arent they supposed to be red??

my 325i shake a little too when start up, this is my 1st bmw, so I thought it's normal, so I didn't pay attention to it much.

2nd: even in the manual, it says nothing about this. It only says that do NOT sit there and warm up the car, instead drive it right way. I normally just start and go.

yeah...I've been starting to notice this start-up shuddering/shaking ... but its not limited to cold starts. This is normal I assume/hope...

40 seconds maybe too long, what I do is start the car then belt up and settle in and drive off...that should be enough time. In the mornings, I take it easy for the first 5-7 minutes and then zoom...

I never go over 4000RPM in the morning. I warm it up for 40 seconds and then drive off. I take it easy, even on the freeway. I'd hit 70-80 but keep the RPM below 4000. I was just wondering it's okay to take it on the freeway after just a few minutes of driving (I think this is fine but I could be wrong).

Any comment on the white marks??? Im certain they're supposed to be red. Dunno what's happening.

I think they've always been white...there was an issue some weeks back about the number of marks varying but it was unfounded (different pics showing anywhere from 4 to 6 marks)...notice I have 5 marks...

You bet..I get the same shuddering at times too!
Not all the time but I have noticed it, I'm new to BMW too & was concerned about this. After the breakin period, I'm told this gradually disappear. I'm @ 625km have to wait to 2000km to really make a better observation. Good luck

I've had it a few times. Unless it becomes habitual I wouldn't worry. Could be cold engine and not the best gas... many things.

No need to sit and warm the engine up. Drive off immediately but gently. That will warm up the car better than sitting there.

In my part of the world, the weather does not reach such cold extremes so I do not have the cold start shudder. We can get down to 0 celcius (32F) on some very cold mornings in winter but not really that often.
