That is not a true statement because of the tensioner. They are both smooth pulleys... Also I am getting two different answers here. I have been routing it like the pictures that joe86 posted. I was told dackelone's pictures are incorrect

Well I put a new belt on but have not driven the car yet. Started it up and everything is fine but it was like that last time also..... I cleaned all of the pulleys and after letting the car run for about 10 minutes, I found a rubbery greasy like substanence that I could rub off on the pulleys. I'm worried that this is melted belt, maybe a top layer of it or something. I'm scared to drive the car in case the belt shreds and melts the pulleys again.

Shredded my belt yesterday beyond all reason on my way to work and had to pray my battery didn't die on the way home. Looking at it today, not much remains of the old belt but a couple of strands and melted rubber everywhere

Check your power steering bolts. 2/3 of mine ended up being snapped. I'm guessing from the extra hp and torque. Just wondering why nobody else has experienced this.

TIS shows the same routing for my 2011 N55 as the routing in Sam's post above. There are two different belts though... 1855mm and 1860mm... not sure which belt goes with which diagram. If your belt shredded, drop a cheap endoscope camera down into your engine for piece of mind. You may find pieces of belt down there. Last edited by bbnks2; 11-12-2018 at 07:08 AM.. |

Did you end up solving this as I’m currently going through the same exact thing you described I even relaced the pulleys and tensioner twice. No sign of anything hitting the subframe, or loose bolts.... I’m lost and I’m scared to put on the belt again only to have it shred a week or two later.

Double check the routing. Seems like the picture in the OP is for the older 1855mm belt and the routing Sam posted is for the newer 1860mm belt? Let us know which length belt and which diagram you are using. Real OEM specs the 1860mm belt for all N55's. Only the older N54s seem to spec the shorter 1855mm belt. Completed changing of the belt, 2 pulleys, and tensioner today. Bought the kit from ECS. Pretty simple job but I did take my time. I elected not to take out the fan and there was more than sufficient space to do the job for me. If you have big hands you probably need to remove the fan.
