F20 or E82?
I'm confused...
According to this article, the 2011 year model 1-series uses the E82 chassis, while the 2012 year model uses the F20 chassis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_1_Series But I see in reviews such as Edmund.com that the differences between the 2011 and 2012 1-series are only cosmetic. Please set me straight. |

The F20 is the new hatchback.... coupes are all E82...

The 135i E82 started with the N54 - an I6 3.0l twin turbo and ended production with the N55 - an I6 3.0l single "twin scroll" turbo. The F20 started out with the N55 but I believe is now moving to the B58 engine? I don't know as I don't have a 1 series anymore. I don't know much about the B58 engine... Also, the replacement for the E82 is realistically the F22 - not the F20. The F22 - or 2 Series - is the Coupe with the same engines as the F20 Hatch and was released last year (I think?) Next time you might do better searching for a more recent thread that actually contains the information you require rather than reviving a 5+ year old thread and asking questions that have been answered multiple times in the intervening period.
