[2009 128i n51] INPA error ifh-0009 when trying to look at airbag

SOLVED!!!

I can read normal codes on my e88 but when i try to get into the airbag modules to check them out i get the following:

Error! Group file : D-SIM.GRP
IFH-0009: NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROLUNIT.

either you are using an antiquated
..\EDIABAS\ECU\T-GRTB.PRG file and / or
the ecu gives a wrong variant index, diagnostic index or, from
f01 onwards, SGBD index.
Program will be stopped!

any ideas on how to fix?

i think it might have been my version of INPA (possibly being too new????)

i used an older version and the e90 option and am now able to talk to the airbag and run tests and what not.
