With the single ER oil cooler upgrade I saw oil temps hit 282F after approximately 16 miles on track at qualifying pace with open track in front of me. Ambient temp was 79F. I have added the second ER oil cooler and I am heading back to the same track this weekend so I will report back the results. I will be running the same OE 5W-30 oil.

The single upgraded oil cooler was enough at first but as driving improves and lap times come down the oil temps will definitely creep. I considered a radiator upgrade but water temps were normal and the modest decrease in water temps would not have enough of an impact on oil temps.

Regardless of oil temp improvements with the second ER cooler I will be moving to Red Line 50W race oil for the second half of the season. I waffled between 40W and 50W but the 50W is recommended for operating oil temps >200F for the N54 per BW.

Car is looking great! You'll probably want to add some delrin sliders to the bottom of your splitter otherwise it'll get torn apart on the edges.

Love the wang and air-dam.

So this weekend I did the BMWCCA Club Race School at Palmer Motorsports in MA. This was truly a transformational experience coming from HPDE and TT. Will I fully cage the car and do 4 races over the next 1.5 seasons to get my license? Maybe. Even if not competitive in my class I'm still leaving towards yes. I don't think I could ever go back to point-by passing. I'll post some footage on my YouTube channel (TaylorVids) sometime this week.

Anyways back on topic.

HOW DID THE ADDITION OF THE SECOND ER OIL COOLER AFFECT OIL TEMPS???

Note: Same car, same track, same pace.

1 oil cooler (ambient 79F) max temp 282F
2 oil coolers (ambient 82F) max temp 259F

And there you have it.

I was also able to get lap time comparisons for the 100TW Toyo R888R versus the 80TW Federal FZ-201 Soft. I saw an average difference of 6 seconds. I will add additional details into my other thread.

100TW vs 40tw. I'd hope the 201's were at least 2-3s faster. That might be my next tire to try. I'd liek to see how well they do at auto-x for being labeled a "soft" tire. Federal definitely seems to run on the soft side after having tried the RS-RR's.

I was almost 6 seconds faster on the FZ201 soft. Only caveat is the R888R was getting up there in heat cycles (>20). New vs. new I would expect at least 3 seconds.

Quick update now that 2020 track season seems to be starting.

I continue to run the FZ201 Soft. I won my class TT last year on these and I'll continue to use them. They are cheap and for TT lap times are really close to Hoosier R7s.

I've moved all my track tires down to 17" and my street/practice tires to 18" for cost savings. I picked up the new forged apex wheels for track tires.

New additions:
•Ohlins Road and Track Dampers (revalved for spring rates)
•Swift springs 700 lb/in front, 1000 lb/in rear
•Some more spherical bushings

First time ever at Lime Rock was last weekend. What an amazing track.

Dr1 Great video; looks like the car is coming along. The non-point by is great experience, there are some driving schools (like Chin) that allow this in their more advance group; however what you see sometimes is that people are not always comfortable passing IN the corners and rather wait..

How do you like the Leroy trailer? Have any issues with it or cons that you see with the 135i towing it?

Thank you sir! Honestly the Leroy trailer is invisible. The tongue weight of the trailer is so low and it has civic hubs. You don't know it's there except I can see the filler nozzle caps on my fuel cans in the rear view.

Have you done back to back lapping testing? As well, how many heat cycles can you get out of the FZ201s before they fall off?

Not with precision but I did go back to back. The lap times with 245mm R7 were slower than the 265mm FZ201 softs. Yes, that is a big size difference. FWIW, my thought is that equal sizes would be close on lap times, at least for a couple of laps where I'd expect the FZ to fall off faster.

Couple questions as I'm also on the ohlins. What size/offset wheels are you running? Want to make sure I can fit a 245 r7 but wasn't sure what offset would fit best. My 245 yokos are pretty tight with my current setup.

I was also considering 700f/1000r and a revalve, currently running 450f/850r but I'm also in a 128 not a 135. How have you liked the balance? And who did the valving?
