E82 DCT magnetic paddle options
I’ve been doing a little bit of looking around trying to find ones that will fit without an absurd pricetag for the E82 DCT, Have been seeing M3 E9X magnetic paddle Options but I’m wondering if they fit and all the wiring is compatible, same goes for f series and all that, anyone with a DCT e82 had luck with them or know ones that will fit and where to get them?

Not familiar with magnetic paddles.
What is the 'gain' here? Ok nvm I looked it up. Tactile feel.

There was a thread about it but I can't find it now. It can be done but you'll need at least the E9X M3 steering wheel buttons and wiring (PN: 307091785-AB). Those make the paddles plug and play with the E82. Then the issue is the M3 DCT paddles don't fit the cutouts on the back of the E82 DCT wheel, it can be made to work but doesn't fit perfectly flush. If you're OCD about fit and finish like me the best way to go about it is buying an E9X M3 wheel with buttons and then buy the paddles you want. ETA: Part Numbers

Fitting different paddles won't change the delay.
You may want to look into xHP for that.

Also, not to jack the thread but on the topic of the shifting delay, if your DCT is not performing the way you'd like it to, I would recommend a full service (fluid and filters) followed by a software update and adaptation reset. A slight bit of performance can be added from xHP, but the snappiness should be pretty good without it. |

These are decent https://a.aliexpress.com/_EH4UQgC But you will need to do the resistor mod as the dct is resistance based shifting. These work ots for ground based steptronic 6AT only. (Please note model 1 in the link above is only for the M3 only) Resistor mod is here https://www.e90post.com/forums/showpost.php?p=19510582&postcount=4 You dont need the blue end plugs as you can solder into position anyway. But if you can get them it'll be easier. Last edited by eastsidaz; 04-05-2025 at 12:52 AM.. |

Most, if not all, of these aftermarket paddles look like something a kid would draw.
I guess I'm the only one that like the original ones. Otherwise you can also swap for the F10 sport wheel thin ones or later M5 silver ones. They all use the same base.

Too bad Nelson Racing Wheel stopped making the adapters and their own paddles for our cars (and in general).
Here's my thread on installing the Nelson Racing Wheel adapters along with their custom paddles: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show...n+racing+wheel As to the lag, you're probably looking at doing an adaptation reset to get things functioning properly again. I've had to do two on my car so far. |

Does anyone know if you can remove the stock paddle shifters? I never use them and like the cleaner look without them, would retain M steering wheel just fill in the blanks with some 3d printed plastic pieces or something

I went a different route on getting magnetic paddles to work. I recently got a set of OE F series paddles. Before swapping the modules to my E series paddles, I swapped the connectors over to the F series paddles just to see if they work. To my surprise, they did. The main studs on the back of the F series paddle modules are slightly taller, so I didn’t install them since I had my factory modules, but it gave me the idea to try F series magnetic paddles that should work with some minor massaging.
I ordered this set from aliexpress and they arrived in less than a week: I just found this on AliExpress: $30.51 | Magnetic Carbon Fiber Paddle Shifters For BMW F10 F06 F07 G20 G30 F18 F12 F13 F20 F22 F30 F31 F32 F34 F36 2 3 4 5 6 7 Series https://a.aliexpress.com/_mNm7on1 I used a file to shorten the main stud. First one took me about 15 min because I was being extra cautious. Second paddle went much faster. The body of the magnetic paddles is a little more squared off than the original modules so I had to dremel two corners of the plastic mount. Super easy though. After that I swapped my DCT connectors to the magnetic paddles and everything works. The wires on the f series paddles are a lot shorter than e series, so I thought I would have to lengthen them. But it turns out they are the perfect length. Pictures below:
