Sorry... i don't have the X5 any longer, and the point i tried to get across on that other post was that there aren't connectors in that place any longer. i attempted to take the panel off to just check myself, but they are special screw heads rather than common phillips.

Guys, before we go pulling panels lets first determine if the gong is coming from the driver's knee area as in older bmws, or if it is software integrated into the stereo speakers?
If it is in the stereo speakers we may be SOL here. PS, the star screws are likely torqs head screws, easy to remove with the correct driver. |

There must be a software/ECU mod that can turn this off.

Checked last night. The 'gong' sound is coming from the audio speakers. So no easy way to disable. If it were a separate module in the kick panel it would be easy to unplug, however looks like it is coded into the audio system.

All I want to do is change the sound. Make it more like a tradition car sound. In my e36 M3 the noise for leaving my lights on is more like the K band radar sound and really grabs my attention.
I have forgotten to turn my lights off in the 1er cause the gong is not obnoxious enough to grab my attention and since it is the same sound for everything I have tuned it out.

There's a thought! If (big if) we were able to get access to the .wav file (or whatever is playing), and replace it with a different sound (or a silent .wav)...
