I am new to the forum, this is a very nice discussion. Being in the market for a new car, I have driven everything. (price not important up to 50).
Driving the smaller GTI/Mini Cooper S/Audi TT/Caymen(non S)/328i Coupe to me was alot more satisfying then driving the 335i Coupe/Corvette/Caymen S.
In fact I drove a BMW 2002, and 1st gen M3, that was really fun. I am very chicken to by either.
I am sooo waiting for the 1coupe to come, hoping it will recapture where the 3 series use to be.

Thanks, Larry. Looks sooooo clean. Love the logos and painted wheels... Very, very nice... The side mirrors are outstanding, too...

no its just a bitter exaggeration of how the 3 series has developed. they have catered to their market (as a car company should) and have thus made the 3er safer, bigger - basically softer. the m3 will retain its soulful, sporty and loved interpretation of whatever the 3 series is, but this is not hardcore enthusiast-directed sports car, you cannot say it will not be a badass performing beast though, because it will.

i think, and sounds pretty much exactly like what ive read on here, those enthusiasts alienated by these developments in the 3 series are getting the 1er/2er. I can not fucking wait for this car. lightweight, small, bmw-soul, great powerplant and clean aggressive lines. and reading up on what the M1 will be designed as they seem to be very directly addressing this concern. building a true drivers car in the spirit of the e30. :drinking:
