yes you can go on a long trip. try to vary the rpms as much as possible by using different gears on the highway (4th, 5th and 6th), and don't use the cruise control.

I broke my last car in by driving to chicago and back (two 500mile tripes). i followed the break in guide - no cruise, vary speed, vary gear. in short it was the most boring trip ever, but i had 43,000 problem free miles in that car (and i beat on it pretty good).

follow the break in in the manual and you'll be fine.

as far as driving far to pick it up - sure, if the deal is sweet enough i'd do it.

I bought my current car from out of town... on the drive home I varied the speed & rpm by pulling off the highway at every other off ramp/small town I could see. It added a couple extra hours to my trip and a few extra clicks on the odometer, but worth it for the peace of mind.

If you are from Ventura, CA to bad you could not drive to the VDC in Port Hueneme and pick one up. Unfortunately they don’t sell them at the VDC. Living near the VDC seeing all the 1 series must be like a kid in a candy store.

BTW I grew up in Port Hueneme about 1.5 miles from the VDC. Back in the 1970’s it was a big field that was an informal motocross track. I spent a lot of time in that field and even broke my arm there. Now I am on BMW # 5.:iono:

It sucks buying cars in Boise, ID so bought my Z4 in Portland, OR and drove it home. Like other, I had 45k miles with no problem, just vary the engine speed. I have bought other new vehicles and drove about 500 miles home with no problems.
