3M film repair?
I bought my 135i just about 2 months ago. The previous owner had 3M clear film or something like it installed on many of the damage-prone areas of the car. Just recently I noticed one little corner has lifted (see pics). I have no experience with this stuff so I am not really sure what I should do. I am thinking if I leave it alone it will just get worse.
What kind of options do I have? Should I trim off the separated part? or Is there a product that I get use to "glue" it back in place? or Should I take it to a professional that installs products like this? or Is that entire piece going to have to be taken off? Those are just options I can think of but I'm not limited to those. Any advice? Thanks! EDIT: Attached pictured didn't work. Fixed. Last edited by red914; 02-05-2014 at 07:32 PM.. That part of the film in compromised. You won't be able to stick it back on.
You can try to trim it, but be very careful....it is easy to cut too much and get into the clear coat. You can also strip it and reapply, but you're looking around $500 or so to do it. |

Don't trim it! Not yet at least
Take it to a film installer, they'll steam the area to lift it, clean, and reapply some glue. Or worst case make a relief cut so you can push the area back down. |

I used the word glue loosely, and yes they do use adhesives on the edge of films. I've had multiple film kits installed and had to have 2 areas reattached due to lifting. There's no guarantee an installer can fix it but it's worth trying before you make a permanent cut.

We use soap/water and then a heat gun to cure the film and activate the glue. Typically when an edge has lifted for awhile, that part of the film is compromised. I can almost guarantee that the film will not sit back down perfectly |
