1 series cup holder
Anyone notice that Cabriolet has 2 cup holders in the center console area next to the hand brake.
but the coupe has a cup holder attachment in the passenger seat area. is this feature new to 09 model or the cup holders are different between a coupe and Cabriolet? thanks |

Are you sure you aren't looking at a car with iDrive and one without?

I have a coupe without Idrive. It has 2 cup holders in the center console area next to the hand brake. What "attachment" are you talking about and exactly WHERE in the passenger area is it? Between the seats on the middle console? |

As far as i know...all canadian 1's so far all have the removeable cup holder (it fits in to right, next to the shifter, there is a slot with a little flapper on it so if you remove the holder, the flap makes things look "clean").
I have the two cup holders in the console (without idrive) as well as the removable one. Now i am not sure about other countries but in canada, like i said, i think everyone gets this removable cup holder. |

It does appear that all CAD cars get the removable one. But, all cars without iDrive have two cup holders. You only get one cupholder when you have iDrive.

I was confused too but I think I got it clear now:
For Canadian 1 series models: if you have a 1 series without the i-drive, you get 2 cup holders in the center console area next to the hand brake + the removeable cup holder (it fits in to the right side, next to the shifter, there is a slot with a little flapper on it so if you remove the holder. if you have a 1 series with the i-drive. you only get the removeable cup holder. does this make sense, everyone? |

nope, you still get one cup holder behind the idrive controller. idrive only deletes 1 cup holder.
not that the remaining one is much use...

OHHHH...you meant the FRONT passenger seat. LOL...I was like whaaaat? I don't think it is just Canadians...I think it depends on the dealer and if the option it to a certain extent. When I was in Germany I went and saw the 'American' demo model and it had it.

Just a question: how many of you actually USE any cupholder? I mean, it's a car, not a restaurant, and it's a BMW, so presumably you are a fairly competent, serious driver who drives his/ her car, not eats/ drinks in it. I took that removable cupholder out, and I use the other ones to temporarily hold stuff like parking receipts, cellphone (yes, I do park if I have to use it), etc.

I might get some fast food from time to time and put the bag on the floor and specifically ask for a medium sized drink so that it fits in my cupholder. I certainly don't go out of my way to get a drink so I can use the holder. Do you always eat inside??? If not where would you put your drink? And it being a BMW has NOTHING to do with whether you are a competent driver or not....
