Awesome Nikki! If only I could convince Artic to stay that metallic blue colour all the time, I would buy it in a second. But in any case, those are wonderful shots

Those are some incredible shots Nikki. So you say you work with a Canon SD500. If I'm not mistaken that's a P&S Digital Camera right? I'm looking at getting the SD550. Do you use any special modes for these shots or is it your little secret?

I would advise against paying the extra money for the SD550, because the only difference is the exterior styling. The SD550 is champagne colored and the SD500 is silver. Besides that there are only a few minor details that separate them, and none of them have to do with the quality of pictures that you will take. I put my camera in Manual Mode, ISO 50 or ISO 100, no flash. For the night shots, I use a shutter of between 1 and 3"2.

the menu should be similar to this: You can look up your model on www.dcresource.com and it will show you all of the features on it.

The new SDs have a larger LCD viewing screen also. But besides that, Nikki is correct when she says that there are small differences.

If anything I don't like the new screen because it squishes all of the buttons into a tiny area. It also drains the battery faster.
Here are the photos of each: And here are the upgrades that the SD550 has: * Larger LCD display (2.5" versus 2.0") * Lower battery life (150 versus 160 shots per charge) * Body color is "champagne" instead of silver * Minor changes to controls on back of camera * New 3 x 3 grid overlay on LCD for photo composition * Fancy new tricks in playback mode

Nice pics! Good job, nice angles and perspectives. Try some depth of field exercises, it'll be fun

I don't know the difference in the menus between your Canon and mine, but if it isn't located where I showed you in the image, then I'm unsure where it is. I'm not really familiar with other cameras. Do you still have your manual for the camera? If you know what model you have, try going to www.dcresource.com and looking up your specific model.

You mentioned ISO 50 and ISO 100. Was just wondering what the ISO setting do. I still have the manual and the whole kitten ka poodles. I just need to get off my lazy butt and go find it and read it.

When I use shutter at night I usually use ISO 100. Different cameras will react differently though. Some cameras will have lots of "noise" when you use ISO 100 while others will be able to handle ISO 200 or more. The higher the number ISO that you use, the less blurry it will be, but the more "noise" you will get. Noise is the fuzzy little dots that you see in an image, here is an example of an image with a decent amount of noise: If you look at the sky, and other parts of the image, like the hood, you can see lots of fuzzy dots. You can fix this with Photoshop, but unless you are willing to do a lot of editing, you may be better off just using a lower ISO and resting your camera on something steady like a tripod. Here is the same image, with editing to lessen the noise:

Nikki, I checked into your web link. I was very impressed with your photos and to my surprise you only use a P/S camera. Somehow I thought that you must have a 20D or D2H. You have very good eyes.

I feel bad now that I asked. Now I got to deal with noise, shutter speed, fuzzy images ....I'll just leave photography to the pro. But this is very informative info.
