+1 That is actually the second time he has paid high tribute to our car, but this time was more elaborate. Note that he feels VO the "right" color FWIW! Whatever his limitations as a prognosticator, he is absolutely the best reason to belong to BMWCCA, even given that they sent me $500 for buying best car ever owned, including 997 GT3.

I'm curious - how is the 1M better than the 997 GT3? If it weren't for lack of rear seats I'd be scheming how leverage the 1M to get a GT3. |

Full quote about the 1M (Roundel [BMW CCA] - June 2013 - page 92 [Tech Talk by Mike Miller]):
http://roundel.imirus.com/Mpowered/book/vrd13/i6/p94 "Future collector value: sometimes it's obvious [...] Here's the downside: The price [of the M3 Coupe Lime Rock Edition] is staggering, and in my humble opinion the M3 Coupe Lime Rock Edition is always going to be less collectable and ultimately less valuable than the 2011 1 Series M coupe in any color, especially Valencia Orange Metallic. The 1M is The Truth - the essence of what BMW used to be in its Golden Years, and a tribute to that era and the generation that made BMW the Ultimate Driving Machine well before it became a manufacturer of smart phones on wheels - albeit phones with greater dynamics than the competition. There is no doubt in my mind that BMW has tuned the M3 Coupe Lime Rock Edition so that it will, in fact, beat the 1M around the Nürburgring - which the "regular" M3 coupe and sedan cannot do."

Mike also did an article on the 128i which was very complementary. I've emailed him once or twice and he got back to me within a day or maybe 2. He'll send his old school maintenace guidance if you just ask. It provides a good idea of his philosophys which I agree with and enjoy. He doesn't care for automatics, for instance. He discusses the weak points of various motors.

Well, you touched on one reason, but practicality also includes issue of ride height (3")! Plus 1M just as fast on street with huge torque advantage, and I figure if my gt2 (just retired) racer/instructor takes us off track backwards in the Porsche at 100 mph and rolls us, then I am having more fun at the track with 1M!

I suppose the 1M makes much more practical road sense. Perhaps I should keep the $15k I was planning on adding to the sales price my 1M to get a GT3,... and instead take $5k of it and get some coils and a mild tune and/or wheels. hmmmm This. Is what I call a 'high-class problem.' In the engineering sense of the term, not the socioeconomic. BTW if you are heading off track backwards - you'd rather be in a 1M? |

1M in June Roundel Issue...
Loved that Mike Miller quote! There's also a photo of my VO 1M on page 16 of the same issue. The picture (taken by my good friend Anthony Ngyuen) won the Roundel Weekly photo contest.
