I had 2 on my 135i.

Both had the indents on the ends but not the one in the middle. That appears to be new...

I doubt they'd be laughing... They may have set a reserve of $40k but I'd wager they paid out more than that. Probably more than the $68.5k...

I would guess they paid out well over 90k. I still think they would be laughing with that value, given how insurance actually works. Law of averages.

You can't possibly be suggesting that for the insurer to be "laughing" ie. very pleased with the outcome, they would have to sell the wreck for more than (or equal) what they paid out... Can you explain?

The only time they would be "laughing" is if the insured didn't make any claims, but in any event insurers have reinsurer(s) so they don't take a big hit.

Let's stick to selling and buying things in this thread

I just read an email from the previous owner this morning (with photos), moments before the auction started. There is a lot more damage than was visible in those photos. The car appears to have been slid sideways into a gutter, onto it, then into a pole. Wheels, control arms, subframe, basically all suspension components gone.

Given the information I had been provided, and using a cheap source of spare (original - new) parts, and doing most of the work myself, my spreadsheet calculated around 90k fixed and checked. 96k on road with all rego, insurance and stamp duty. That was using conservative (optomisitc) figures for all repairs too

Not sure what I'm doing wrong with my calculations, but that seems hardly good value... =S

Anyway... I was hoping it would go for around what you guessed, but the one good thing is, that I don't have the frustration of missing out by 500 or 1000, instead I missed out by 25000.... o_0

Still can't believe it...
hahaahahah wow whoever paid $68,500 for it got a really shitty deal if it's got all that damage then..

if it went for $55k or less, would have been not so bad... but there's a lot of $ in parts alone to be replaced... and getting it all painted, even assuming it wasn't purchased by a shop.

Hahah sure, if the 130i one ends up exactly as it came from the factory, more than you can buy it for on carsales, with an added stat writeoff note on a REVS check?

Buy mine for $95, less Ks I'm sure, no write-off-repair and. That car will NEVER be worth the same as a non crashed car, never. Dickhead bought it for that money for sure. Just sayin.

Hmm i bought a complete F&R subframe for around $4K from a 2010 M3, so perhaps the buyer has access to cheap used parts and runs a panel shop?

If so it may only cost him $10K to get it back on the road?

Hi

This is what the lid looks like.

Name: _DSC0061 (Copy).JPG
Views: 457
Size: 172.0 KB

The snorkel and filter (Genuine BMW and K&N respectively) are the important parts in regards the performance intake, the lid (BMWP replica) just keeps the noise down and heat out. The snorkel allows for approx. 30% more airflow into the airbox than the stock snorkel. If you were to get a tune like the evolve then this would be a good addition to that. Also, because the performance snorkel is bigger, the stock airbox lid will not fit on it.

The snorkel and filter are at Advan and I will drop the lid there next week if you wish to have a look.
