I think I want it louder

I'm hoping to get some opinions on trying to get a slightly louder exhaust note.

My current setup is:

N54 > Stock DPS > N55 Mids w/ resonator delete > Berk Street

Now the easy change would be going with a berk race or some other muffler delete axle back. I definitely do not want to change DPS at this time. If I add a muffler delete am I going to regret it? Will the drone be unbearable for a bit more volume? And lastly is there another axle back with muffler that is louder than berk street?

TBH, downpipes were the biggest change in noise levels for me, so much so that I now just run catless downpipes and golf tee mod. I've only heard the race exhaust on a catless car and it was pretty loud (but in a good way). I would say give it a try, you'll probably get some drone at low rpm but get a lot of good noises when you rev it up.

IMO, you won't regret it at all. I originally had the PE but like you, I thought it was too quiet for me. So I removed the muffler section and swapped it with an Active Autowerke Gen I exhaust. So I pretty much have a straight pipe setup DP-back. I also have the stock DPs and have no plans on changing that. I think the volume and loudness is just perfect.

The sound is very throaty and I love being able to hear the exhaust even with the windows up. Unfortunately, videos don't really capture the deepness and throatiness of the exhaust setup.

How bad is the drone with the AA gen 1?

Honestly, it's not that bad. There is drone but it's bearable. I mean if you want a louder exhaust, don't expect that you won't have additional drone.

Just buy the Berk race and if you don't like it, there's enough demand here on the forums for you to re-sell.

It's droney, right around 2-2.5k it drones a lot, especially with the AA DPs. Can make casual conversation difficult if you are slugging along in the bottoms of gears, but driving alone with or without the radio on, it never bothered me. Once you reach 3k, the engine tone opens up as I think it becomes unresonated above that point.

There is also a mod that you can do which will reduce cabin engine tone if it bothers you. I did it, actually by accident, but I like it better this way.

I was considering the race. I could try it out and hang onto the street for a bit until I decide. You are right...should be rather easy to dump either on here.

The Cobb charge pipe deletes a sound pipe for the cabin. The stock charge pipe has three connections on it, one of them being the sound pipe. The Cobb has two connections on it, with the sound pipe deleted.

I'm not sure if you could just remove the sound pipe without installing an aftermarket charge pipe, but you'd have an empty connection there which would leak boost pressure if it wasn't sealed up. Probably just easier to go with an aftermarket charge pipe, they're cheap.

+1. That's a very good description of the sound qualities of the AA gen 1.

PS. I keep forgetting to click "Appreciate" on these kind of posts. So used to just saying "+1".

Not sure what you mean 'dual out'? If you are looking for an aggressive axle back which retains a muffler, IMO Meisterschaft race is exactly what you are looking for. Outstanding build quality, fairly unique tone on a fairly uninspiring sounding motor, the aesthetics are nice....It was the first modification I made to my car nearly three years ago at this point.

I've changed a lot of crap on my car. I've never once had any interest in getting rid of the muffler.

Sorry, meant quad tip. That exhaust sounds perfect. I want the exhaust note to be more gurgled almost like a diesel truck. This exhaust does that.

1- get catless downpipes. Cheapest option and it will get you a nice increase in sound.

2- GTHaus Meistesschaft. You cannot never go wrong with any of their exhausts but it is costly.

3- Get the AA Gen I, very reasonably priced and it is the loudest exhaust available.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I think I'll keep my eyes out for a GT race or AA gen 1.

Also, as an aside, does anyone have a link to DPS 101 of DPS for dummies? I want to do the swap, but am concerned about Cali emissions and setup so the SES light isn't constantly on.
