Interesting. I think if you have a blue, manual IS coupe, you gotta hang onto a copy of that. Looks like the issue coming out in a few days has an article about the 135is convertible, too.

A lot of the article didn't really pertain to me, as a DCT, tech package guy. But I got what I paid for - just the uncomfortableness of having to be in a crowded barnes and noble.

Build table is updated, current count is 536

There were 600+ 1M Coupes built, so at 6 or 8 "is" produced per week, they will run out of production time before the count gets that high.

Glad I was scanning this forum and learned of this magazine. Just ordered a copy of the June edition on Amazon, and subscribed to Bimmer going forward. Thanks guys!

VDC delay

I ordered a 135is in June and was supposed to have received it on August 1. However, it has been sitting in the VDC for the past 10 days and the dealer has been trying to contact BMW NA to inquire about the delay with no response. I am worried now that they damaged the car at the VDC and that's why it has been sitting there.
Anyone experienced such a delay? What are your thoughts? What would my options be at this stage? Any suggestions?

Yes, several of us had 2-3 week waits from the VDC as it takes much longer to process an IS model as they have to install half the IS parts at the port, which can get pretty jammed up and backlogged, especially with so many IS's coming in of late. So, I wouldn't worry at this point, though it's incredibly frustrating since the sales people on a 135is seem very misinformed at times and are insistent on "oh, just your typical 2-3 days" from port to dealer. Mine took 2 weeks from the VDC to the dealer a whopping 60 miles away and one person on the same boat in this forum had a very unresponsive dealer, new sales person, and got no answers until finally his showed up 3 weeks later for his IS.

Usually the sales person can get ahold of the people at the VDC to see the status and sometimes even send pictures.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, this helps and it is comforting that it has been experienced before.

Ya, I was prepared for maybe a 1 week wait and expected an extra delay for them to install the performance exhaust, PPK, and IS badges at the port, but most dealers unfortunately have very little or no experience with IS deliveries to know any better. It also looks like orders really peaked of late so a lot of them are coming into port and have to get processed.

So, at least know that this is normal and most IS owners who ordered theirs will tell you that, so you can feel somewhat reassured. Still sucks though!!! Just isn't abnormal. They really like to torture us poor IS people. Longest 2 weeks of my life from port to pickup, but at least I had a rental hyundai accent to help soften the blow. =P

Ooh 2 weeks from port to pickup? And you're already in CA? Hmm could be longer for me in WA state. My dealer said 7-10 days from port to dealer is typical. He IS aware that parts are to be installed once it docks too but it's likely going to take longer and that's an estimate for fully built BMW's. Ah I was planning on picking her up Saturday with an absolute BEST case scenario but that may be pushed out another week. Oh well!! I'll just have to inquire directly again.

Thanks!

Just remember, don't shoot the messenger! And mine was back in late April, so things might be different now. But was disconcerting when people on the boat that docked a week later were already getting their cars. =(

Will all be worth it in the end and will make you appreciate it that much more. Absence makes the heart grow fonder? First time you hear it though...all will be forgotten.

Mine arrived in port on July 27, but PC delivery isn't scheduled until Aug 29. I wondered if most of the wait was due to limited PCD slots, but perhaps much of the wait is due to VDC processing time.

Heh no worries. I ordered June 1st and it's already been long enough that the anxiety wears away with time except for the small fact that it could be a mere week or two away. Sound wise, I wanted the Performance Exhaust regardless of IS or not so I look forward to it!

Yikes that's a while off from port. I think PCD is Performance Center Delivery. What's VDC?

VPC or VDC = port = vehicle distribution center = the place that takes forever to get us our IS's.

What makes the wait less annoying is the fact that I am on vacation and won't be back in town until the 21st of August.

I updated the build table to reflect last weeks production - we are at 550 "is" coupes through this am.

August is off to a brisk start, 51 units of the 135, 18 of those were "is". Perhaps they are getting more orders than expected

I think BP has the vert count pushing towards 300, so combined "is" E82+E88 are more than the US 1M total

Well, but I could say that's only because they never made a 1M convertible. Aha! If there were no IS convertible though, wonder if they'd have gotten an IS coupe or normal 135i convertible.
