Premium audio?
Hello,
I am not sure if my car has the premium sound system. All I know is, it shows the name of songs on the radio when i choose a station or a song. If my car comes with the 'premium package' does it automatically come with premium sound? It just sounds so weak which is why i was asking. Oh and one more thing, the radio does have ipod/USB capability and bluetooth. Does this mean it has the Hi Fi system?

Couple things...
Hi-Fi is the regular base stereo in the USA. Top Hi-Fi is the upgraded stereo. Premium package does not include a stereo upgrade. It was a separate option. The iPod/USB adapter was a separate option, unlrelated to the upgraded stereo. I don't know how to tell if you have the upgraded stereo, but the Audio forum FAQ probably contains the answer. It's in the sticky up top. Good luck. |

Check the second settings page on the HU. If you don't have the EQ or Music options the you don't have Premium Hi-Fi.

I have a basic EQ, I can change Bass, Treble, Fader etc... Not sure if that means its HiFi. I dont know what the "Music" option is that you are referring to. Thanks

The year of your 1 is also a big clue. In 2008 and 2009, 1s in the U. S. got the mid level system (still no EQ but 10 speakers and more power than the base). In 2010, the base system in the U. S. is the base system in the rest of the world. That makes the subs smaller (6.5 inch versus 8) and deletes the tweeters. If you have separate tweeters, you have the mid level system. If you don't, you have the most basic system.

I have a 2009. I have speakers near my rear view mirrors, and speakers near the inner door handles. I have a basic EQ but i am not sure if that means it is the top hifi system, i dont know how to tell.

When you have tweeters in the mirror sails AND you only have Bass and Treble tone controls (rather than a multi-band EQ) you have a HiFi system, also called premium.
You have an amp with analog inputs and 8" under the seat. You also have 4" and tweeters front, and 4" (and tweeters?) rear. You have the easiest system to upgrade |
