iPod Y-Cables on eBay?

Anyone pick up one of the Y-Cables (for option 6FL) on eBay? Some of them definitely look like knock-offs (notably the ones that are shipping from China), but there are several US vendors selling cables that look legit - except that the prices are steeply discounted compared to what the dealers are asking. I hate to pay $60 for a stupid cable from BMW, but I also don't want to get a knock-off at half-price. Anyone with any experience here?
The reason I'm shopping for something that should've come with the car is that I ordered through the Military Sales program, not a US dealership, and the brochure specifically states "cable not included," I think because it's not a factory-supplied item.

I have an extra cable brand new if you need one. The sales guy grabbed one for me when I picked up the car and I found another in the glove box when I got home. You can have it for whatever the going price is (plus shipping). Guaranteed to be a BMW cable. Shoot me a PM if interested.

there are two cables that come with the car though so make sure you have 2 Y cables, because I have one Y cable and then one straight USB cable. I bet pretty soon BMW will be like HP and other printer cos and just provide the adapter for the ipod and no cable

ebay cables are ok

I have ordered several different cables on e-bay, and had extremely good luck with them. prices are really low (as they SHOULD be for a cable).

I suspect no matter what you order, or from where, it was made in China. however if you order from China, it'll take about two weeks to get to you.

anything ordered stateside should take a few days at most.

hope this helps.

hey guys

what is the difference between just plugging in the iPod/iPhone to the USB port with the apple USB cable, and using this 6FL Y-Cable which plugs into both the AUX and USB ports?

I've heard that this allows you to play AAC or DRM formatted music off of the iPod/iPhone. Is this the only benefit?

Can never seem to find any clear answers..

Thanks

My understanding is that the USB part of the Y-cable only allows control of the iPod (change track, etc) through the head unit and steering wheel controls. No sound comes through the USB cable as BMW must be able to read the unit as a mass storage device (which you cannot with an iPod). The sound has to come from the AUX jack.

I see. Thanks.

Do these cables work with the iPhone? Anyone?

Cos I can play via the aux at the moment but not control via head unit.

The cables should work with the iPhone or any next gen i"anything". I can confirm that they work with my iTouch... I hope that helps!

I just ordered http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 for $3.90 + shipping. I'm pretty sure it is the right one, but if it isn't I'm out $6.

That would be good to know if it works out. Keep us updated.

Thanks.
