Your 50k mile n55 spun a bearing what do you do?
So my 2011 bmw 135i with 50k miles spun a bearing now the question is what do I do?
-Rebuild the motor? -Replace the motor? -other? What would you do? |

But just a quick look, I see nothing close by. Shipping is usually about $100 freight if you do yard to yard. To your doorstep is going to be more. If you find a yard that's corporate shipping can be less. And I just noticed that top of the list is Ghassen. Which might not be a bad idea. |

Depends on how modified the rest of the vehicle is. If it was close to stock I would replace the motor.
If I had a lot of suspension and/or cosmetic work done already I would look for a salvage E92 M3 that was hit in the rear, swap the S65 |

Is it a DD or just a weekend fun car? Coming into winter would be a good time for a rebuild. I'd pull the engine and do the rebuild myself.

It will be mostly a weekend car. Problem is I only have a single car garage so space is tight. On these is it easier to take the motor out the top or the bottom?

I pulled my N54 out the top. I don't have space to get it out the bottom. The body would have to be raised, I can't fit 2 engine hoists in close proximity. Out the top I pulled the bumper, radiator and all that. Made lots of room and I didn't feel cramped or worried about breaking something with a swinging engine. Hood stayed on, just unhooked the lift struts. The worst part is what to do with all the wiring. |

I pretty much pulled mine straight out. Pretty straight forward removing the bumper and rad support. Then undo the 6 front subframe bolts. I picked up a 2012 with a blown motor and swapped in a reman with PS2 turbo. |

I have a quick easy swap diy for n54. I made it for a buddy. No need to go into dme box at all. It's probably not much different for n55.
These cars are the easiest swap Ive done. My first engine pull took me 2 days. This second time it took me 3 hours. Once I did it I realized how easy it could be the next time.Let me know if your interested. I see n55 for sale alot. Try LKQ |

I meant the n54 swap shouldn't be much different than the n55 swap. Not switching engines. I recently talked to a coder who told me putting an n54 in an n55 car would be an easy code for him. I'm sure there are some wiring differences to overcome

Yeah thats why I'm considering rebuilding mine. I fee like the hardest part on these motors is the timing since you need special tools
