Suggestions for mods??
I just bought a 135i with 90k miles and this will be my first car that I want to work on/mod but I also will be using it daily for commuting ( I work on a hybrid schedule now so I only drive to work twice a week). I was wondering what are my best value mods for a modest budget?
I should add it’s 2013 so n55 Last edited by bmdoubleyuh; 03-18-2022 at 02:53 AM.. |

Not as good as M3 bushings but a lot cheaper and easier to fit are the Powerflex Urethane Rear Subframe Inserts .
My cars a 2013 fitted with the power kit and it really made a difference. |

First of all maintenance. Being at 90k it probably needs a waterpump/ofhg/valve cover gasket if they havent been done yet. After that I would do a charge pipe and JB4/MHD tune for best bang for buck power wise.

+1 for maintenance, I’d focus on any leaking gaskets first and water pump ASAP. Charge pipe would be a good idea to do even before you tune the car as mine blew on stock power.

In additiin to MHD, catless downpipe will give you a noticeable bump in power. If you're auto, I can't speak highly enough about Xhp flash, it totally transforms the car.

Definitely maintenance. Check plugs, coils, oil filter housing gasket, injectors, idler pulley and belt, and oil change. I bought a 2011 N55 135i with 88k in October and it was amazing until about 30 days out. Had to replace the valve cover bc the pcv was bad and then the idler pulley and belt. Once that was done I got a BMS intake, MHD tune with wireless OBD connector, JB4, and xhp dct flash. Car runs like a champ. Next up is catless downpipe, coilovers and intercooler. Congrats and good luck.
Edit: I installed an oil catch can and I couldn't recommend it more. Going to get the valves and ports walnut blasted soon too. Direct injected cars lack the fuel spraying through the intake manifold and on the back of the valves so these motors tend to accumulate a lot of carbon in the ports. This can cause rough idle and overall poor performance. I found a shop that does a chemical cleaning for around 300.00 which isn't terrible. |

Check out MAD, BMS or ARM charge pipe and intercoolers. These are your best budget parts for a street car.
Pair it with a tune and you are set
