I agree, but the red is darker than the Mojave press pics. I wonder if they've subtly changed Sedona Red to a richer hue? Reminds me in these shots of George Barris' Candy Apple Red. Much prefer this. I think these Winding Road shots are some of my favorite photos of the car. You get a sense of human scale that not even the Hans Stuck photos revealed. Again, absolutely a gorgeous definition of what a BMW is. The car will look great 10 years from now. |

Fugitive Color
btw, these were shot with a Canon EOS 1D MarkIII, their newest professional grade slr 10.1 megapixel camera... the camera lists for around $4,500 and just came on market. No flash was used (you can find all this info at the bottom of the pics on the Winding Road site). Digital cameras, even the ones professionals use, have problems accurately capturing the nuances of various shades of red. It's digital's Archilles heel. Not unusual...Kodak and Fuji were both a little twitchy with some colors back when film ruled. What makes me think that the color is accurate is that its being reproduced digital here from the digital source, a clean interface, rather than the incongruencies you find when going digital to printed page-which is a nightmare because they use two entirely different color systems. Long story short- color's accurate here. There seems to be some variation from the earlier press pics and this Munich press debut. Who knows if BMW is still fiddling around with final version of Sedona Red....sure looks like it. E46 comparison is spot-on.:headbang: |

Any white balance issues? Based on the smidge of white in the wheel discs it looks pretty good. I've been a candy apple red fan since I was a youngster - first application was a 1930s Ford Crown Vic - AMT model IIRC. (And you scored major points with the George Barris reference earlier : -).

Nice observation Brook!!!! And I thought my 7 megapixel was rockin...haha I was going to do a post to see if anyone thinks there are 2 versions of the red. I mean some pics seem REALLY orange and others seem REALLY red.

If this were Kandy Kolor, then doesn't that require an extra coat of paint..a silver or gold, then the semi-translucent red? |

You think? :iono: Having owned several E30s I see a bit of it in the new E82, but I see very little of the 2002 which BMW continues to compare the E82 too. |

Yup - that's the way 'Kandy Kolor's were sprayed (Testors right? ; -) - But these days the manufacturers shoot a coat of base color - then a semi-translucent metallic layer before the top coat of clear (at least that's the way Ford did it).

I see a bit of the E30 as well and really none of the 2002. But whether it looks like an updated 2002, E30, or E46 the look works for me.

yeah that picture brooks just posted is actually a bit too flat orange looking for me. but really thats why i like it, whatever it actually is, it seems to change in a mild classy way with angle and light and its nothing like super bright neon give-me-a-ticket red thats typical of sporty cars trying to make a statement. id prolly still get black, white or dark grey because thats just how i roll though haha

Yeah, those pics made me think of red or a blue color too. White is not an option because no one will see it in the winter
