I am most excited about the exhaust sound, I knew the car would have power.
+1 We are about due for another video, which SCOTT alluded to in his last message....I really want to hear that exhuast in all of its glory on the Ring...

I too am wondering about how "available" this car will be, if indeed it is a limited production car....

My deposit is on the way to the dealer as of yesterday. Supposedly I am first in line there and got a decent deal on it. Anything under sticker seemed like a good deal to me.

GTS M1... oooh I hope it's not European only. Would hate to wait for this and not make it over to the states.

The car has potiential but the weight. If it s 1500kg also what s the point then.

The GTS M3 weight is 1530kg that s insane.

The 1er's chassis is a porker...but this is already a known fact. If you expect this car to come in under 1500kg you will be disappointed.

BMW will counter such options with a final ltd run of a GTS M1. Although the standard car will receive usual M appendages such as Carbon Fibre Roof etc.

Car looks mean , standard 5 spoke alloys , or with optional Competition Wheels. The exhaust sound is like a high performance bike , very raspy. On a similar level as the S1000RR Superbike.
When the quad-piped cars hit the track you will be able to hear the full output as sound and exhaust tuning is moving into the forefront of development now.

The "Production" car will debut in mid-late December - the thinking is... Give the consumer a very special Christmas gift.
The car will go on sale in Europe in Spring 2011 and be available in North America for early summer.

A drive in a prototype is only a few days away , but as a 135i owner I am told that it is not just a faster 135i , it leaves the 135i behind in everything where the 135i succeeds.

The key difference is to distance this car as a stand alone model and distinguish it from the current model so it allows the next generation 1er Sporthatch space to integrate itself.
That's a real shame that the personalization program won't be ready for this model. I was really hoping to order carbon fiber interior trim and cloth seats. I was planning on ordering the M tri-color striping as well.

Oh well, I'm still going to buy it (as long as the price isn't to high), but the personal items would've been very cool.

You would have to wait for the GTS - it sounds like it's going to be called the ///M2. Many thanks for Scotts info once again .

Scott,

After seeing all of the renderings floating around, will the M1 still get the same M3 headlight eyebags as seen in this early rendering.

Same here. If it is going to be limited, maybe I'll have to consider trading my 135 for one.

I leased my 1er, and the lease is up next April (had one of the earlier ones here in the US)...so if the car doesn't make it here until "early summer" as SCOTT says, then I will have to find something to drive in in the interim...

BMWFS told me that they can extend your lease at the current lease price if you are going into another bimmer. Give them a call.

Thanks for the suggestion--I have heard this too, just wasn't sure how easy it was to get it done.

My guess is the HP is set not only not to encroach on the M3 but also so that they will be able to reach the same number with a turbo 4 in the next M1. Not sure if I will go for it at 350 hp unless I can get a few options and keep it under 50k.

With the specification released on the M3 GTS in time for the media test drives that will be commencing real soon. We will get the official announcement (but not the reveal) that there is a BMW 1er M on the horizon. The arrival of photographs indicating the quad pipes set up on the new car finally proves that this is an M car (yes it is an M car) , Interior shots of the new car show the M specific seats and instruments as well as an M steering wheel. As the summer gets on we should start to see more elements of the car come to light. As an example the current test cars are somewhat shorn of their cosmetic appendages as these are irrelevant to the testing programme as yet , towards late summer we should start seeing final cars in the FEP programme ahead of it's December launch.
The recent Jon Sibal rendering of the 1 series M shows the direction the car is heading. It is purely a "youth" project it is aimed at younger customers , it is also to show a future direction of M that has previously been forgotten.
