There'd be slight differences, though, right Ward? I'd guess that it would probably have a different front and back end, different exhaust, hood, ect...maybe a different interior?

No, probably not.

Sheetmetal is a HUGE investment in tooling (like in the hundreds of millions of dollars). BMW will be getting at least 3 years out of the E90 sedan's current sheetmetal.

Interior bit molds are slightly less expensive, but don't expect to see major changes at all.

The point is, BMW doesn't change this sort of stuff often, aside from very minor production tweeks here and there. You'll see the mid-life refresh and that's about it...

the 330 has all the same body panels as a euro 320, same nose, same bumper, same interior, I don't see why the alleged 335 would be any different.

the M3 should have a different body(slightly), but the alleged 335 sedan will be the same as every other 3 series sedan

there is no chance in hell that BMW will revise the very succesful car that it's brought to market in less than 3 years

Hmmm... probably not hundreds of millions, especially for just a subtle die change. But hundreds of thousands more likely. Still, expensive when you really can't get that much more premium for the car.

Well, a subtle die change isn't so subtle when you are doing it on high precision, compound curved, large scale sheetmetal dies like the ones in BMW's press shops. Then you need to propogate those changes across all dies, in all press shops (BMW has what, 4 lines churning out E90s?). Furthermore, each of those dies needs to be dead on the same...

Add it all up, and BMW is building a whole new set of dies and that is a BUNCH of money. Hell, that is the biggest single investment a company like BMW makes in a moto vehicle's production cycle (next to the initial development costs).

Ahh I feel stupid now...I thought the M3 and 335i were one in the same. That's what I was talking about. But, now, if the 335i is just a faster version of the 330i, then no, I guess there wouldn't be any changes. Sorry!
