New bmw 1m owner

Hi all,
Just bought today a new to me bmw 1m alpine white with 57k miles. The car has always been in Georgia and the original owner had until January of this year and sold it with 52k miles. The second owner bought it and drove it for another 4K miles and sold it. I bought the car from Motorcars of Georgia and it is absolutely stunning and perfect in any way. You would never know that the car has 57k miles. The only disappointing thing is that the manual and the spare key are missing and most likely stayed with one of the owners. I was hopping that somehow I could get in contact and hopefully find them. The car is stunning and shows outstanding pride of ownership. I also have an e39 M5 and I see now why the baby M is such a sensational car to own love it. I always thought the e39 M5 was the ultimate driver’s car but I think the 1M takes the cake.

Congrats on the car!

You can certainly buy an owners manual set for a 1-Series of the same vintage off of ebay, probably for $50-$75, tops. There was an insert of some sort specific to the 1M, but in reality it is pretty useless, and there is a link at the top of this forum for manual downloads, so you could probably download that part if you wanted to.

My 135is Convertible, bought from Carmax with about 5500 miles on it 2 years ago, did not come with an owners manual, which similarly was taken/stolen by someone. Carmax reimbursed me the cost for a manual set off of ebay and it was less than $60, if I recall correctly. There were quite a few of them for sale at that time.

As to the extra key, you can pay a dealer to order/make one for you. Make sure to have them eliminate the memory of the key you don't have and to check that the car has been flashed with the update that makes stealing these cars through the OBD2 port less easy. The car should be programmed to accept only the keys that you personally have and no others.

Congrats on the purchase, you won't regret a single day!

I have a e39 m5 too, they are very different cars, the M5 is more like a highway cruiser, I love to take it to long road trips! But the 1M is better car all around, for sure.

Congratulations! I have a brand supplemental manual you can have for $15 shipped. I bought a couple brand new and later found the original one in the trunk under the liner. The owner had put it back with the battery and compressor area. The other manuals were regular 135i manuals with this supplemental manual specific to 1M. The manual case was M case but I think it was same as m3. The supplemental is a must have for 1M owners. Let me know and congrats!

Found mine also in the trunk. Smart design. Not sure if Bimmer did this to free up glove box space or for better weight distribution.

hey, mine was Canadian too. I think it's a Canadian thing. My first 1M was US Spec E.D. it was in the glovebox. Maybe the Canadian ones put them in the trunk to free up the glove box for the pint of Yukon jack and glove warmers?

Anyway, OP should look under the trunk and if you want the supplemental manual, let me know.

Also, Champignon is right that there is a link to the manual already in PDF and it is pretty useless from practical point of view. There are some translation mistakes since they started out with an M3 manual for the 1M. But, this is what makes it special. The 1M was a short run skunk works project and these mistakes in the manual are what make it special to have. It's part of the quick turnaround story that is also illustrated in the manual.

Also, I did learn some things from the supplemental manual.

The car is all stock with no mods of any kind. Thank you for the support. The dealer called an said they already ordered a manual and are shipping by ups to me today, however would not be able to refer a key due to already working out a good deal already. I have owned three e39 m5, Audi RS6, mustang boss 302 Laguna Seca, shelby gt500 etc etc, and I can finally say that I have found what I thought I always wanted my car to be like. This baby M is something else and I can see Myself holding on to it for as long as I can.

Hi nachob,
I may take you up on your offer once I see what the dealer is sending me.
Thank you.

I love it so far and it is all everybody makes it to be. A lot of fun and certainly a speeding ticket magnet for my driving style. Just decided to sell my e39 M5 today and having mixed feelings while the guy is supposed to come and pick it up by next week. I want to make the 1M my daily driver and have fun with it.

Here is a different angle. I also have to agree that no matter how many times you look at the pictures it does not get old. They really have a unique presence.
