Random Revving is back...
This is very frustrating. I had this problem a few months back after my car sat for about 3 months. it's been about two months now and when I turned it on this happened:
I have no idea here. No CEL () Without a CEL the dealer will obviously not replace the HPFP or the injectors (I believe someone previously mentioned those as potential issues). I'm debating replacing the HPFP on my own dime and if it fixes the problem ask BMW to reimburse me (a pretty ballsy strategy if I do say so myself). Could it be a dirty MAF sensor? I'm not even sure our car has one. When I had this issue before, it went away after about an hour of driving. I'm really not interested in waiting an hour for this problem to go away. Today, I had a scary incident parking the car where I was pulling into a spot and the car randomly revved lurching me forward.

I think it could be your throttle adaptation out of whack. I know when I tried resetting my throttle adaption in MHD on my N54 135i it made the car rev exactly like that at idle when I didn't reset the adaption properly.
I learned there is a weird trick of resetting the throttle adaptation in MHD. start by resetting it, then turning the car off, then turning ignition back on, holding gas pedal to floor for 30 seconds with ignition on, then turning ignition off and taking key out, then finally turning the car oncompletely and boom - silky smooth idle again. I had to use that weird little procedure to get the throttle adaptation to fully reset. If you have MHD try that, if not, see if you can do the same procedure but with INPA or something resetting the throttle. If have neither INPA or MHD, see if there are other ways to reset the throttle adaptation but Im not sure of any

I neglected to mention, I did do that. I followed this procedure:
Push Engine button ON (once; do not start engine) Step on the throttle pedal down (all the way down) Hold it there for 30-40 seconds With throttle still down, push Engine button OFF Release throttle Wait 2 minutes Start car normally.

The reason why I think its something else is because the problem goes away after a while. If it was the throttle adaption, I would think the problem would persist.

Anyone ever try any injector cleaner? Not sure if that actually works.

I use injector cleaner because BMW strongly recommends it and from my research in direct injection. Since the injector is in the chamber it's important to use it to keep clean. My car also runs poorly, although not that bad, after sitting some time. That is more than a little bad. My car did something like that when high pressure fuel pump failed. It wasn't able to keep idle but if it goes away then there is enough fuel pressure so that wouldn't be it. It sounds like a vacuum leak of some type but just speculating. Let us know what you find!

leak???
i had a similar problem for a while, then i went to my mechanic and he found the problem being a leak in the engine cover and had to replace it because of a small crack of some sort and allowed unwanted air to flow in!

Dealer informed me today that the problem is a crankcase ventilation valve. With labor $2500.
I knew I should have bought a Honda S2000.....

Check out a local member of bimrs.org before you commit to the stealership. This is the avenue recommended by the tech writer (Mike...) at BMWCCA/Roundel.

My former boss used a highly regarded Independent shop here that put his repairs at $5k. He took it to the BMW dealer for a second opinion and they had it covered for free through some random extended warranty. BMW of North Scottsdale has been pretty good to me for reasonable repair costs...and if anything goes wrong I can always complain to BMW. I asked if the $2500 included my "VIP discount" and he said no, and they'll work on it. We'll see.
Oh man, that sucks about the S2000! My previous Honda has 87k on it with only one issues, that Honda covered outside of warranty! When I lived in the North Burbs of Chicago I used Golz Motors who was really good.
